I am currently unable to get players to connect to my PW's server.

It is saying "the server is behind a firewall".

I have checked my router settings, and the seem fine( though when I check my ip with ipconfig it comes up as 192.168.1.69   -  which seems odd to me since it used to never be above 192.168.1.2 or 3).

I am not sure what to do with the windows 7 firewall. I have nwn2.exe set as allowed for private/public/domain along with nwn2server and nwn2main (been trying all).

Oh game runs fine. Just can't get others to connect from gamespy.

Any help with getting the server running in windows 7 would be appreciated!

your systems IP changed, make the router so it's aimed at the new IP of your server.

Thanks pain, I did remember that very late, right before I posted here. So you were very correct in that. It had been an insanely long time since I had to check my IP address. luckily a screen shot of my router settings reminded me.

I also ended up needing to power off(cold) my cable modem for some reason? After figuring that out I was able to connect through gamespy. Though I haven't had another player test it yet.

If you could please check back here tomorrow incase I need more help I would REALLY appreciate it.

thanks for the advice/reminder pain.

I have another issue showing up.

It seems that clients "progress" isn't being saved since I upgraded to Windows 7. They log in and play for a while. Then when they log out and back in again that progress was never accounted for, so there xp, gold, items are all reset to there starting position for the day.

I have connected to the server myself via LAN and Internet. Everything seems to work fine for me, but I play on the same machine hosting the server.

Any ideas on what I need to do?

My router settings are the same as they were with Windows XP, and we had no issues then. I am assuming it is some sort of connection issue, but I am at a loss on what to check.

The only other change I can think of was upgrading to the new xp_bugfix (not sure if that changed anything here?)

Any help is appreciated.

This can happen if they crash out.  Is this a possibility?

They are not crashing out. I had thought of that because that is exactly how it is was behaving.

I had a player create a new character and test it.

Seems new characters Work Completely fine! So it is something with the way the new opperating system is reading/writing files.

I checked the properties of old character files versus new character files. The only difference I see is under Details: Owner

The owner is different between the two files.

Is there anything I can do with that?

ha even better. It has been saving them. but it is saving each one as a new file.

so you end up with:
character.bic (original, and should be the only file)
character1.bic
character2.bic
character3.bic

etc.

are you on servervault or localvault?

Servervault

I found a workaround/fix I copied the player character files to a new folder and then deleted the originals. I then copied the copies and pasted them back into the players login folder.

This changed the "Owner" listing in the file's properties and allowed everything to work correctly again.

Problem is I have to do each player folder individually and there are about 1500 of them (so I am only doing the folders of current players I know, and from requests)

try and set the permissions on the folders to match the ones which are working ( set the folder ). Might be able to copy all the folders to a another folder on your system too, instead of just doing it by file one by one. ( might want to look up a guide on google on how to set permissons in your version of windows, it's under properties i think in it's own tab )

HA! thanks a ton. Why is it always the simple thoughts that elude us?

Thanks Pain just copying the servervault to a new location, deleting the original and copy/pasting the copy again, Set everything correctly!

Hopefully that is the last of my upgrade issues. Balarand should be back in full swing!

Thanks again to everyone here for your thoughts and advice.
