If you play a human vanguard, your strategy for basically anything other than an Atlas is as follows:
1: Charge
2: Nova
3: Shotgun
Repeat as needed.
Vanguards are awesome.
i had one of my friends get pwned by a phantom after charging it lol
This. Nearly had her with that combo but I was a lower level at the time, therefore I couldn't finish off the last 5th or so of her health before she skewered me. Heck, I'd nova, charge, then either nova again or use the shotgun. You don't want to be too close when your shields are down or it's over.
Edit: Then again, everyone rage-quit since the host quit, so I was left alone. Nothing else to distract or whittle her down.

Asari + Stasis + Throw = Win
Although I haven't quite found a way to deal with turrets efficiently yet.
Food for thought. Max rank stasis becomes an aoe sphere that will make guardians drop their shield when they walk through it
Ooooh. I was looking at that evolution? Will it really? Tasty.
Asari adept is now my new favourite class. Owning Phantoms like a boss, great melee, lovely dodge animation and "For Thessia!" warcry? Too much win!

I suppose cryo rounds would come in handy, but you can't rely on a random item for consistent strategy.
Edit: I've also melee'd a phantom at full strength to death using 2 normal then one heavy, then another 2 normal melees. Being out of ammo left little options so I wouldn't recommend it. Man that got my blood going. Red screen after her sneak attack and that desperate scramble to beat her to death. Wheh, that was fun.

Concussive shot + Unload AR clip in her face while she's licking up her teeth from the floor..

I agree with this. Though for most heavy enemies I prefer to run up to them nova -> charge (only if barriers drop/nova consumes it) -> nova. Throwing in a heavy melee somewhere there

Charge -> Heavy Melee -> Shotgun
Repeat steps 2 and 3 if neccissary

Anyway, maybe I just don't know how to play Vanguard.

Main tactic I've heard for soldiers is to just put as many rounds toward her until teammate can help
Grenades do just fine. not sure about concussive shot though.
Well, my character is a Level 15 Soldier who basically spams Concussive Shot like there's no tomorrow -- I have a +166% Recharge so I'm essentially alternating between a few shots from my AR followed by an application of CS. It keeps her at bay pretty nicely on Bronze but if I'm alone and there are more enemies surrounding me things get pretty hairy.

CS is really impressing me. I didn't expect it to be this good. I even chip away at the Atlas at a nice clip like this.

Phantoms are great. They force you to move away from cover, sometimes right into a Guardian or the field of fire of a turret. Biotics counter them best, Vanguards in particular, and the lucky vanguards with Claymore shotguns even more. I found that, as Engineer, Drones work well in distracting it too. There are rarely more than one per wave, thankfully.
Enemy engies are a pain in the ass. A stray turret can wipe out a whole team very easily, especially on Silver and up. Tech powers kill thm really fast, but the best way is to kill the engie himself before he sets him up. They are fairly recognizable in that they use pistols, unlike everyone else but Guardians.
Nemesis are friggin annoying. Best bet is to immobilize it with a power (Overload, Charge, Stasis, Incinerate if it's shields are down) and kill it fast.
Guardians can either be real tough or sitting ducks, depending on your team. Explosives (frag grenades) and good sniper shots kill them dead. Anything else? Good luck circling around it while his buddies shoot you.Vangards can kill them fast by charging, then headshoting while he recoils from the force; there's a nice clean shot of his head. Pop!
Centurions don't seem special beyond the shields. I noticed they throw grenades more often, I think. And their melee seems more damaging.
Still, even with the various tricks, it's quite difficult in Silver or Gold to kill them as easily. In fact, the various Cerberus units work quite well together, it's really well designed. Big kudos to Bioware.

As a Soldier, I like to give them a nice Frag Grenade in the face.

Also, if you know there's a Phantom (usually Wave 7 or so is when they start spawning) don't just stick to cover. Keep your eyes peeled.

when you see Phantom - Use ENERGY DRAIN.
Then shoot what you got - sniper works best + headshot, but any weapon will do. handgun, assault rifle.
When you have ENERGY DRAIN available, use it again + shoot.
should be dead.
energy drain = phantom is paralyzed for 2 seconds or so and leaves herself up for shot mostly.
when ur f'''d up, tactical shield and run to deep safe distance.
I've dispatced 4 phantoms + guardians + other stuff on silver level solo, when they r**ed all my other team.
Was 90% calculating 10% luck. Tough tough
Better to front phantom FIRST, than leave her roaming around.
P.S. I once used ROCKETS on phantom since I was really low, exposed, and _scared_
Don't be afraid using rockets on phantom if your class is weak against phantom, your on already wave 10 and all other teammates are dead.

Step 2: Gangbang her with all your friends, aim your loads at her face for maximum trauma
why bring friends? status + carnifex. 3 shots on bronze, 4 on silver.
