I have searched around for answers on how to get the tome of greater mortal vessel, but everyone is saying different things. So I have a couple of questions:

Do I have to spare the shopkeeper in order for him to later sell the tome? Is it mandatory to side with the cults without killing Kromir in order to get the tome?

Or should I kill the shopkeeper, side with cult and make the trade with a shopkeeper who joins later perhaps?

So my question is basically, what are the requirements to get this tome of greater mortal vessel? Anyone who can say that with certainty would be greaty appreciated :P

First time you walk into the town you can buy it.

If you kill him, there will not be another merchant to take his place.

Also, i believe you need to search the back room he has to get the body that you need to find? So i guess the best, or only?, way to get it is to buy it as soon as you enter the town for the first time

Well he doesn't have the tome the first time I enter the town without aggroing the townspeople. Have tripple checked :P

Have Xbox 360 btw if that makes a difference. Can add that I have done Dalish/Orzammar/Circle questline before going to haven.

If he doesn't have it, then either:

1) He won't offer it until you're a higher level.

2) He doesn't actually have it and whoever says he does is a filthy liar.

I think there's some degree of randomness as to where certain items are. Particularly backpacks, which people claim to have found.

What I'm curious about is whether there's a certain amount of these items in the game, and they're put in certain locations depending on how you progress through the game. The items I'm referring to are the ones that give one-off increases to important areas (Skills, Stats, Talents, Spells, Storage, etc.)

Any thoughts?

I'm under the impression that tomes are a one off, buy it from vendor A, it'll be gone from B and C too. Thus if you bought Greater Mortal Vessel in, say, Orzummar, it'll never show up in Haven.

Reason: Old Tegrin was selling one or two tomes I couldn't yet buy for lack of money. Grew richer, bought tomes at other vendors but by the time I got Old Tegrin again, he wasn't selling them anymore but the rest of the inventory was still similar.

Its only 2 stat points.

Have you got the tome, when did he sell it?

I didn't see it on him.

I just checked it up on Gamebanshee. It wasn't listed as being available anywhere either.

I am curious, though, as to why a single stat point tome costs 15 gold.

I didn't see it on him, and then even if you become a reaver and the guardman loves you he seems to disappear. So either he only sells it some of the time or people are mistaken of him having it. As it stands redcliff doesn't appear (at anytime during the quest) to have such a tome. Only places I've found them were at camp, elves and dwarves. The Imporium and circle have magic one though not playing a mage not so good.

Can anyone confirm that this tome was available off of the Haven shopkeeper for them? I have gone back to old saves and tried many different things but it never shows up for me.

the prima guide says "new" heaven shopkeeper is supposed to sell it. so either the guide is wrong or the game is bugged. im siding with the game being bugged.

Old thread, but I'm interested in it as well. I'm trying to optimize my character by buying every Mortal Vessel tome. I have everything except the one in Haven. Perhaps someone knows anything about it at this point? The guide indeed says that NEW shopkeeper sells it but no matter what I tried (including siding with Cult) he doesn't reappear.

I've never found it. I have never found a new shopkeeper either. And that guide is notoriously (the prima guide) buggy. Notice that there's not a single vendor who has 99 of anything in the guide. Which is just plain wrong. I can go on and on, but you cannot trust the prima guide.

I was thinking you need to actually kill the first shop keeper when you try to go into his storage room. Not everyone does that since the most common way of triggering the villagers' hostility is by walking into the house right near the entrance. Then I'm thinking you need to side with Cultists, and only then a new shop keeper might appear, after Landsmeet or otherwise. I haven't really tested it though.

Lol. The same guide that recommends Shapeshifter Spec for Damage dealing!? :o

Is there anyone who sided with cultists and killed High Dragon after Landsmeet?

I didn't try that, but I really doubt it works.

So far I've tried killing the first shopkeeper or leaving him alone and then either siding with the cultists or killing them. No second shopkeeper. And no, you can't buy any tome from the first shopkeeper.

I think the conclusion is that it might have been in the game at some point, but it isn't anymore. This could explain why the Prima guide lists it, and the misinformation easily spreads from there.

Wait, how can you do that? Is it possible to just take a pinch of ash, return to Redcliffe to heal Eamon, do Landsmeet and then return to defile the ashes?

Kolgrim will confront you at the Gauntlet Exit if you do not pour the dragon's blood immediately after taking from it. No matter how you answer, he'll attack you.

I don't know if you can *still* pour the dragon's blood after killing him, but either way, you won't be able to learn the Reaver specialization from him.

It's not about the Reaver specialization. The idea was to try all possible combinations to get the second shop keeper to appear (supposedly, a second shop keeper in Haven sells a tome). Not that I think it's going to happen.
