I dunno, I opened up the toolset and the only merchant with the greater tome of mortal vessel is the 'new' shopkeeper in haven, and he doesn't actually seem to exist in any of the maps (ie the merchant exists in the data, but isn't placed anywhere). he has a model and conversations, all of which indicate that he should be in the shop, but he isn't.

The same prima guide also suggests passing up taunt with a warrior tank.
This issue and the bug that affects the quest "A Noble Birth" annoy me. If the game was in development for so many years, how did they not resolve these issues before release?

On my first playthrough on console (PS3 - no patches yet), the shopkeeper had the book.
I can't remember exactly how it happened, but I walked into town, went into the store, checked his items and saw the book. I didn't buy it because I didn't have the cash.
Went to the backroom, he tried to stop me, so I killed him.... and then I was never able to get the book.
I'm not at that point in my second playthrough yet. What I would suggest is the very first thing you do in town is go into the store to buy it.
On my first playthrough I was an elf mage if that makes a difference.

Ok, I just went there for my second playthrough. (Human Rogue) and he didn't have the Tome this time. Maybe it's occurrence is semi-random, or PC class dependant?

i'm not sure about PS3, but on the PC the tome is never in the shopkeeper's inventory based on looking in the toolset (though i'm no expert). it is in the second (apparently unused) shopkeeper's inventory.

I am surprised that that no one has mentioned this but, shop keepers get an update in inventory after you have completed 3 main quests. example: broken circle, paragon of her kind, and nature of the beast. once you have completed 3 main quests the dailish merchant and the haven merchant will have tomes.
