ME3 PC no controller? Working as intended? That's a terrible answer, Bioware.

I really don't wish to sound too abrasive here.

Three times through the demo, the new "action hero" styled animations, the double tap jumping over obstacles, the aiming from cover functions... and even the rolling from cover system (Gears of War style) show me something huge; ME3 is definitely a faster paced action game that's more suited to typical console style combat. And that's not a bad thing at all. It was quite enjoyable.

And even though that's the case here, I'm still stuck being unable to use my 360 controller on the PC.

You know, I understand that Bioware thinks it's "working as intended"... but to me, this is a sign of either really quick porting, or an honest lack of attention to the PC action gamer.

For pete's sake, even most the Flavor of The Week $5-$10 steam shooters have controller support of some kind nowadays; or at the very least allow you to map controller functions to the keybindings.

Seeing a Triple A title like ME3 lacking in this feels like an insult. Skyrim, Witcher, Amalur, Etc. all have built in controller support. Mass Effect 3 stands as the only recent big name RPG that couldn't be bothered with it.

I already Pre-Ordered on the PC and have no intentions of changing my pre-order to my dusty and unused 360. But I would like to mention this. If I'm forced to play a game designed for GoW styled combat on a console... I'm going to buy the game used instead of new. I'd much rather Bioware have my money than Gamestop; but there's no point in doing so, if I'm not on a PC.

After finding the PC controls strange and uncomfortable (SPACE BAAAAR), I turned on my 360 controller hoping it would at best automatically give me 360 controls and UI, and at worst let me turn it on in the options.

But no, nothing. Not good. I've been playing Skyrim all week and that automatically sees the controller and changes accordingly. It should be a standard feature for games that are also on the 360.

Yup. Another reason I love Bethesda. They said "Ok, people were annoyed at being unable to use a controller in Oblivion; so BAM. Done. What's the next issue?".

When you find out from indie developers who don't mind spilling development blogs and info (or hell in DCUO by SOE) how easy it is to implement a UI switch, it makes you wonder why in this day and age Bioware continues to be stubborn about it. If games like Skyrim, Amalur and Fallout: New Vegas allow you to do with ease; why can't Bioware, whose titles are in the same quality level as these.

I enjoy the performance power of my PC, over a 360. Every game I play regularly right now (outside of stuff I'm currently testing for release) allows me to use some form of gamepad; except for Mass Effect 2 and now the ME3 demo. The game's a console port here. We really should have been given the option.

On the bright side, at least we can remap the majority of functions for our comfort. First thing I did was remove action/cover/sprint from the spacebar and put it on the 11 key on my gaming mouse.

Funny. Only X-Boxers could ask for a Controller here. I don't need them.

However: it could have been a nice option for those guys. I mean, it doesn't hurt me if there's Controller support as long as Mouse + Keyboard are still an efficient combination. Which is not always the case for Console-ports to PC.

Use Xpadder or similar emulation software. I did that with ME2 and it worked great (except in the hacking and bypass minigames).

Yeah I'm not really sure why Bioware haven't done it. I think the only explanation that I can come up with (besides BiowEAr be lazy b*tches!) is that Bioware uses the Unreal Engine. Don't know why, don't know how, but maybe something in the engine makes a UI switch less easy and/or near impossible.

But maybe I'm just giving them the benefit of the doubt when they don't deserve it, who knows.

It's definitely not because of the Unreal engine since loads of games using that engine has controller support.

And GuardianAngel470 the ME 3 engine does support controllers on the Xbox...

Dual Shock 3 - Xpadder - MotionJoy - Control Config Skillz
Better than 360 Controller support. - But it should be in there as an option.

Just make sure It can be turned on/off in the options menu.
Don't wanna get stuck w/ 360 control scheme - EVER.

I could see people wanting to use Xbox controllers in games such as soccer games (because the analog stick isn't limited to 8 directions) or other games that don't have shooter-like gameplay...

But in Mass Effect? You have a worse aim, you have only 3 power shortcuts, and worst of all, console controllers are the reason we have the omni-button instead of separate roll/sprint, cover and use buttons...

I won't reply to the childish "Only Xbox'ers ask for this" commentary, because it's garbage.

X-Padder worked ok for me, but it's a hassle compared to how most AAA titles are taking the route of accessibility and ME3 is stuck in 2007.

Yup!

I have acquired severe nerve damage over the last few years, which prevents me from doing super fast combat in a traditional button mashing sense... and so I remapped to counter that. Been useful, but what decent game doesn't allow keybind changes nowadays.
