I am unsure of anyone else has read this series here but I just finished The last colony today and really loved the series over all (I have not read Zoes tale or Sagan diaries. Maybe i will someday).  I think the universe that Scalzi has created is great. If you have not heard of this series and like Military Sci-Fi then I recomend it. The series main order is: Old man's war, Ghost Brigades, The last colony. (Zoes tale is a retelling of The last Colony through Zoes prospective.) Personally I find the John perry very likeable

I hear they are making a film of it and hope it is done well an not just an action movie. From Wikipedia. (I can assure you it is accurate).  The author clearly states in the afterword in Ghost brigades (Old mans war sequel) that he took ideas from many other novels so don't get bent outta shape about him "Stealing" things and passing it off as his own.

The first-person narrative is about a soldier named John Perry and his exploits in the CDF (Colonial Defense Forces). Old Man's War is similar in overall structure to Robert A. Heinlein's Starship Troopers and Joe Haldeman's The Forever War as it follows Perry's military career from CDF recruit to the rank of captain. It is set in a universe heavily populated with life forms (much like David Brin's Uplift Universe); colonists from Earth must compete for the scarce planetary real estate which is suitable for sustaining life. As such, Perry must learn to battle against a wide variety of aliens. While the soldiers in Starship Troopers and The Forever War relied on powered body armor to gain advantage over their aliens, the soldiers in Old Man's War have enhanced DNA and nanotechnology, giving them advantages in strength, speed, and endurance.

I purchased this a few weeks ago... I haven't had a chance to read it yet, I'm in the middle of Arthur C. Clarke's Odyssey series at the moment. But I'm greatly looking forward to it. I've heard so much good things about it.
