Which level 6 evolution do you guys prefer? I've tried both and found the shock 3 bad guys more useful than the rocket launcher one especially if you like getting close with the shotgun. Anyone else have thoughts?

Haven't tried that one myself. I always went with the rocket launcher. Its got a pretty nifty range.

I can see how the rocket drone would be useful especially against tougher targets. The other evolution is excellent at keeping multiple enemies locked down which is great if you like to get in the thick of it. He also seems to last quite a while if you spec for shield improvements.

I just went back and tested it with the upgrades you suggested. I have to admit they seemed better than the rocket. It was really harassing them.

Never mind, I was talking about sentry turret.

Yeah using your Drone for crowd control, and your Turret for damage seems to be the best way to do it. Send out your drone first, and then throw the turret into the mix, the Drone will prevent enemies from shooting down the Turret before it sets up, and the Turret will just pick off stunned enemies like they are nothing.

I wasn't too happy with the Engineer my first playthrough. I didn't think the drone was as aggressive as in ME2. But after upgrading it to multiple-electro shock version I was more than pleased. AOE was definitely something that was missing from the drone in ME2. Playing as an Engineer is definitely going to be fun.

Flame thrower! Rockets didn't work very well for me.

Sounds like there is a consenus developing regarding which evolution works best (in the demo at least). This has been good for testing out builds for the final game in terms of deciding what will be the best evolutions to suit your playstyle.

Yeah the Shock 3 is better than Rockets as I use the Drone to mostly take pressure of the team and give openings to shoot or use powers.

What do people's whole trees look like for the drone? I feel like the shield and damage upgrades look more appealing than the explosive drone or initial shock upgrade? If you do both those upgrades, than it also seems like the rockets would do some pretty heavy damage and the drone would survive quite a while to distract a group of enemies weather or not it stuns them. Even though it has a short recharge, the longer it lives, the more attack powers you can use... I haven't really played engineer in ME1 or 2, but am starting one in ME3 multiplayer. Thoughts?

I went for the chain shocker. My drone can lock up an entire area of baddies, making picking them off easy.

I actually have a question about the 5th and 6th evolutions for the drone.

If (for the 5th) you choose the short ranged area attack (I believe it has a 2.5 meter radius), and then you choose the chain lightning attack for the 6th, does the drone ever use the short ranged area attack?

If so, when?

I thought the lightning *was* the short ranged atack? Are they refering to the basic ranged attack instead? That makes it seem like either of the 6th options are silly if you launch drone into a group...

Also, is there any splash radius on the rocket attack?

I don't like the drone. There has been many times I've found that thing off chilling by itself instead of attacking anything, as opposed to the Leroy Jenkins drone of ME2 - which I prefered.

I was confused as well. But I considered it to be a seperate attack for when enemies were really close. Didn't go for it.

Also, is there any splash radius on the rocket attack?

The description makes it out to be that way, though I don't think it's large.

I guess I'm still confused because no one is giving a complete answer. Is the 2.5m AoE shock attack a totally separate attack that the drone gains from that evolution choice? If so then the it seems one should take both shield/damage upgrades and the chain lightning?

EDIT: I'm carefully reading each section now that I'm home... I guess the drone has a separate close range attack no matter what. With both shield/damage upgrades it's basic attack should only do 96 damage, but it should have 1100 shields(!) That siad, the 190 (+ first 40% upgrade (266) if you do not choose explosive drone?) is much more damage and stuns enemies. So that seems really good. BUT if you've done that, THEN you want to always deploy it as close to the enemy as possible. This means it should not be using it's longer range attack very often. Doesn't that make either choice for the 6th evolution a complete waste?

Otherwise, if both damage/shield upgrades are taken, it seems the drone should be deployed at range, and the damage output would be 541.5 (!) with rockets, but only a 1.5m radius. Or 96 with a much higher (?) chance of hitting up to 4 enemies, for 384 damage total, and more agro.. No stun, but if 4 guys turn their backs to attack something disposable with 1100 shields, I guess I could care less and/or stun them myself with overload...

Can anyone confirm or discredit my assumptions? I hope they're right, becuase I'd love spec a powerful, close range drone while saving the last 6 points for something else!
