Does anyone know which sound API used in DAO? DirectSound, DirectSound3D, OpenAL, or FMOD? As I understand, DAO must be using DirectSound, but many people reporting that they enable EAX through ALchemy, so I am very confusing as ALchemy only work with DirectSound3D game.

And I can't find any info about EAX support in DAO. I always assume that EAX didn't get support in the game. But many claim otherwise.

Any idea?

None. And it won't use EAX, Alchemy or Open AL. All those rumors are false. DOA has no coding for DirectSound3D. It only will use the stock windows sound APIs for 2.0, and 5.1 sound.

Thats not neccesarily true. I set up Alchemy and it does affect the game using EAX. There are distinct echos and reverb now from the game that were never there before. It comes from both dialog and environment depending on distance and direction of the source.

Below is how I set it up.

Use Game Path: (drive letter)\\(file path)\\Dragon Age Origins\\bin_ship\\

(not the documents folder path but the actual installation path (in program files or wherever you installed it to). I use custom installation paths and names but just make sure you direct it to the bin_ship folder)

Buffers: 4

Max Voice Count: 128

Ok, I investigated and DAO use FMOD as its sound API. FMOD seems to support dsound3d and openal if the developers choose to enable it.
