I've only had a chance to play the demo twice so far the first time was with the soldier and the second was with the Engineer. My overall impressions so far are that Mass Effect 3 is a fantastic finish to Shepard’s trilogy, but I did have a few impressions of the demo that left me feeling a little off:
[*]Firstly while I was moving around I naturally tended to use the Shepard body as the reference point for the middle of the screen, but of course the middle of the screen is where the cross hairs our placed and the gap between the two was such that I initially kept over shooting where I was walking. If the Shepard avatar could be moved in more so the cross hair is closer to over the characters shoulder I think that would fix that issue.
[*]The second point is that the cover system seemed a little jerky; I'd either grab cover I was trying to walk past or run towards cover reach it and instead of auto grabbing like it seemed to do in Mass Effect 2 I'd just stand there getting hit.
[*]The soldiers frag grenade ability I felt was too slow, I'd open up the power menu target an enemy select grenade and then by the time the pull pin and throw animation is done the target has travelled to the far side of the map and the grenades hit nothing.
[*]Engineer feels like a very fun class to play, but I also assumed that all classes had a thrown grenade type power which the Engineer doesn't seem to have. I initially thought the sentry turret might be the equivalent but seemed to put all the powers into cool down, I also used several of them before reaching the restock point mid point in the game with thermal clips and grenades and didn't seem to pick them up.[/list]I'm going to fire up the demo some more now and try some other classes and will post any new impressions I have here.
Gameplay impressions.
