The game worked fine under XP, but my motherboard burnt while I was playing, so I replaced it and the processor, and installed Windows 7, as I kept getting BOSD when trying to install XP

Is there
The game worked fine under XP, but now, when I try to install the previously downloaded files (either from EADM or D2D), I get a data error while trying to unpack core.rar

It cannot be the files' fault, as I could install the game without problem under XP before. IT might be a RAR issue with Windows 7 64.
I have redownloaded about a dozen times to different places, so I really doubt it is the problem (unless there is a new version of EADM or the installer adressing this problem).

I then tried to launch the game from my previously installed folder (under XP), but I get the following message:
"There is a problem with your game setup. Please reinstall your game."

What do I need to do? edit some registry entries? Which ones?
Is there a way to keep the installer from stopping after he gets a corrupted files? That would help a lot getting the game working, as I would only have to manually download the unpacked corrupted files.

Did you try to run the install with the "Run adminstrator" command?

Right click the intall file and click "run administrator". Get used to running it with Win 7. Install typically go ****** up if you don't.

I had the problem with the Data Error installation as well with Windows 7 64-bit. Here's what I did to make it work.

1. I browsed to the discs contents and copied everything off of it onto my hard drive so I could swap out the files causing issues.

2. I copied over the dragon age folder from my other hard drive that had a successful install on Windows XP to my current hard drive on my PC.

3. I ran the installer, and watched which file the installation hung up on.

4. I found that file (normally an .erf or .rim file) in my folder that was my successful installation and copied it over to the disc contents that I placed on my hard drive.

5. I re-ran the installation and watched for the next file it hung up on and repeated step 4 (many many times)

6. I finally got through the installation successfully once all files were replaced.

This takes a while, you will probably need a full evening to devote to this method, but it does work. You have to copy the dvd contents onto your hard drive otherwise you can't replace the bad files. This did work for me, but you need winrar on your machine so you can open the rar files to find the corrupt .rim and .erf files to replace.

Yes, I have ran these with the admin command.

I am not sure I got it correctly:

whenever the installer exits, you replace the bad file content inside the .Rar archive and then relaunch the installer?

Yeah, thats what I did. Unfortunately there a lot of these files (for me anyway) so I had to probably restart the installer 20+ times.

You should be able to see the file that the download freezes on just before the installer says Data Error. If you try extract that file manually with winrar it should also throw you an error, if you want to confirm it is a bad file.

Then you can take that file from your successful install folder (if you still have it from your windows xp install) and copy it over the bad file. THe rar archive wil be rebuilt when you do this so it will take some time.

Others have had success with the Repair option that winrar has, but I couldn't get it to fix my files so I replaced each one manually.

Thank you :)
With your help, I found a faster way to do that:

backup the installmainfest_en.ini file,

edit the installmanifest_en.ini, and delete everything but the first following lines:
[Response]
NumberOfFiles=14
NumberOfInis=0
AdditionalFileSize=500000
Build=9343
SKU=WWRetail

Replace NumberOfFiles=14 with NumberOfFiles=0

launch the installer.
It will skip the unpacking phase, and just copy some exe and update registry entries
The next step is copying everything from the original folder to the new game location, WITHOUT replacing any file (select skip all when prompted about replacing existing file with the same name, but merge all when prompted about merging folders with the same name).

use bin_ship\\\\DAOrigins.exe to launch the game

I have not tried the game itself much yet, so there might be some issues remaining, but at least, it launches

Anyway, I found something very strange:
When running 7z or the installer several times on the same archive file, the corrupted files are not the same every time.
