i'd say the biggest thing here would also have to be weapons...

i'm a level 18 vanguard, but because of crap random item rolls i have crap weapons... so i can't do anything when it comes to silver, my weapons do basically no damage.

just farming bronze essentially for better weapons...

Remember when we used to play games on hard difficulties for fun? No bonus, no incentives, no achievements/trophies. Just good old fun and bragging rights?

I never did that...

I find all of them difficult at first, low level. I think the settings should be toned down especially when playing by yourself, with no one. It's though Okay and fun while playing with others.

I remeber when the only difficulty was hard, no changes allowed

I remember playing "flashback" on SNES and "Battletoads" on NES and the only difficulty was "Ridiculously impossibly hard"...

To complete Silver you absolutely have to have a serious team with good connections and are above level 10. xD I got really lucky and was randomly placed into a group like that, and managed to clear both areas before some members left... Couldn't complete more than a few waves with their replacements. :(

I shudder to think of Wave 10/11 on Gold. D:

Me and a few friends were able to beat gold, it took a few good tries but it worked. Everyone with 2 thermal clips, 2 instant heals, 2 medi-gel, and 2 missiles. 8 Missiles works wonders against the Atlas units.

classes / race combos used were:
Asari Adept (level 19)
Quarian Engineer (Level 18)
Krogan Soldier (Level 20)
Turian Sentinel (Level 18)

The Adept (me) was on stasis duty, I don't shoot, I equip the lightest possible pistol, and I decrease my recharge time as fast as I can. I simply spam stasis on everything possible. The Krogan was in charge of cover fire and throwing out as much ammunition as he could, he also spammed grenades as much as he could.

The Turian Sentinels role was to snipe, and call targets (phantoms, engineers, turrets, guardians, etc.). And finally, our engineers main objective was to focus fire down enemies as fast as possible, with her turret shooting rockets at the atlas units as much as possible.

The MOST IMPORTANT part of all of this was that I keep the phantoms controlled. I would stasis the phantoms and we would make them priority # 1. No phantom stayed alive longer than 4-5 seconds.

On topic now! Gold and silver are much better than bronze when it comes to earning credits, and you do earn more experience (115-120,000 bronze, 160,000 silver, 190-200,000 Gold). I recommend this as a breakdown for the levels:
1-11 = Bronze
11-17 = Silver
17+ = Gold
Once you are routinely able to finish gold you will notice a LOT more experience earned, and many many more credits. Although until gold becomes that "current level" for you, I suggest farming out silver for mass credits, very easy and even able to be done with a duo of good players.
