The last good writer at BioWare leaves. Good night, sweet prince.

Actually, no. The best writer Bioware has ever had is still there: Mr. Lukas Kristjanson.

By the way. Does anyone know if Mass Effect was dreamed up in team writing or whether it was mostly Mr. Karpyshyn.

Judging from what I've read he is besides Chris L'Etoile definitely one of the better writers Bioware had.

Not shedding tears here, though. ME3 is gonna be my last game from Bioware for a long time anyway (and he wasn't even involved on that to begin with), with maybe the exception of trying SW: tOR for a month once I got the time.

This makes me sad. Best of luck Drew, and I shall certainly a buy a copy of whatever you should choose to put forth.

Oh no. I've admired Drew's work in games and read Mass Effect novels. Hate to see a talented writer leaving but I wish him the best of luck in his new goals.

It's part of the business / part of life. He chose to 'finish the fight' and get ME3 out before moving on, and that's important. Look at this this way: it's always sad to see good talent leave; but on the other side of that coin, keeping the same people forever can also lead to stagnation, so lets hope that whoever fills the opening leads to some great new ideas!

Drew Karpyshyn wrote the Darth Bane trilogy. Therefore he can do no wrong.
/fanboying.

Seriously I hope he does more Star Wars. And that's not to say he can't do more ME books either. After all he was never a LucasArts employee (at least not to my knowledge).

I'm going to say, right now, that using this thread as a way to attack those writers whom you have a beef with is not acceptable. Wish Drew luck, certainly, as he's a good guy and deserves it, but if I start seeing 'Drew's gone, and 'writer I dislike' is still here! WHAT A WORLD!', I'll start handing out bans.

Drew should have stayed making video games. He is horrible at writing books. The only good book he ever did was the first Darth Bane book, the other two where meh, his other stuff was garbage. Not really that sad to see him go tbh. Chris leaving was much sadder, but I was never a Drew fan. Good luck Drew, you'll need it.

I'm glad he left really. I blame the worst of the ME writing on him and now I am even more hopeful of ME3 being great since he had no role in writing that.

Sorry that he left - I've been seeing his name round the place for ever. Since not long after ToB was released, I think. :(

Drew was the best writer they had. It may be smarter to leave before the ship sinks

they will be missed

I love how Jesse Houston and Christina Norman went from being hated to being missed simply because their names can be added to some conspiracy against BioWare by virtue of their departure. And here I thought they were to blame for all the bad changes from ME1 to ME2, what with bringing the game to the Playstation 3 and the added focus to combat....

Now Chris L'Etoile is a person I expected more people to name as truly missing in the same breath as Drew.

This is what I was expecting too, I'm suprised not too many have mentioned Chris L'Etoile! Just knowing that he's gone after he made some of my favourite parts of ME1 and ME2 is very sad. I'll miss Chris and Drews work for Bioware alot.

I'm guessing this ques in all of the assumptions that Drew left cause Bioware has 'changed'? (which is really stupid by the way, but knowing what I've seen on this forums it will happen...)

Oh no...yet another person leaves Bioware... :(

Probably jumping ship before it gets too rediculous.

Good call on his part. Best of luck to him, he was the reason Mass Effect was so grand and beautiful. If he injects that same passion into a novel he'll be a legend. <3

Oh boy. Here come the page long rants about how EA/Bioware's new direction/whatever caused him/forced him to leave.

Probably not, since he hasn't explicitly expressed any such misgivings in public.

I'm sure I'm not alone in wishing Drew the best of luck in his next/future endeavours.

I just finished reading Retribution a ME based book written by Drew. I enjoyed the story. Sorry to see him go, but I wish him all the best.

Are there any more good writers left in BioWare ? Or are they all about the sparkly things that EA want?
