My advice to most new players would be to play bronze until at least character level 10 (I waited until 14), and not play gold until you have a level 18+ character and a good weapon setup from vet/spectre packs earned through silver runs.

I made my headstart into ME3 MP today and second that advice. Probably as everyone else I started with "Quick game" and did not pay attention to any search criteria, so I ended up in gold missions more often then anything else and we never made it to wave 3. Now I have the criteria set to bronce. Voila, first mission win.

However, on any difficult level, I am missing the radar telling you where the enemy is. Upon each new wave everyone is motivated to run into a different direction to find out where the enemy is coming from. Having a radar would support a more coordinated approach. Although there is voice chat support it looks like no one is using it which means that the game should provide some general directions to streamline player actions.

Edit: I found the MP so much fun that I am considering getting ME3 for my XBox as well (the xbox community is more used to using voice chat in MP). Is it possible to transfer ME2/ME3 save files from the PC to XBox?

Does anyone finished reapers on gold? I've done for the first time "full" silver, and it was all four of us laying down and waiting for extraction LOL. Geths and Cerberus is piece of cake, but reapers are insane.

I am starting to find just now that the Bronze levels are getting easier, but it still depends who you play with as if have people not willing to work as a team it still can make life difficult especially against the Reapers.

As a technical possibility?  Sure.  As a marketing possibility?  I don't know - maybe if you use the Cloud Storage feature for your PC saves, but I'm not sure if the consoles support this feature.  Good question, that.

Really, we need a new difficulty every time someone beats the next tier reliably. Where's platinum?

Thats actually a good idea.
Hopefully they will do one as a DLC with some new maps to go with it as well.

I'm still facing the Gold challenge, though new enemies and a platinum challenge would be great. A platinum challenge should require tactics planned before the game.

I beat gold on all of the maps and got the achievement, it would be nearly impossible now that they made the geth stronger and ruined sabotage.

The primary changes are in the wave compositions.

Usually in bronze, Phantoms, Banshees, or Primes wont spawn until roughly wave 6-7.
In silver I believe they spawn on 5,
and Gold in 3 I believe. This data may be off by a wee bit.

So in silver, centurions, rocket troops, and Marauders all spawn in wave 1. So getting started is a little more difficult. The best way I could describe this is that advanced enemy types spawn in far sooner than in easier modes.

The number of enemies increases as well I believe. More grunt types alongside a strong number of advanced enemies.

As for the health and dmg. My first run on Gold showed me that when fighting Geth that their shields recharge very quickly and are far harder to break. I believe the same holds true for the others. It's harder to break defenses so it requires excellent team play to compensate.

Enemy Hp, Armour, and Shields go up by ~1.5x from the previous level of difficulty, so enemies can take 1.5x as much damage on Silver compared to Bronze, and 2.25x on Gold compared to Bronze. Their damage also goes up but I don't have a number for that.

Number of enemies definitely increases, although as for the waves I swear I've had wave 3 or 4 top tier enemies a couple of times on Silver, and other times it has taken until like wave 6. Either I forgot to double check that the game had the difficultly I searched for or else it's just a bit variable - maybe it partly depends on the wave objective.

For Gold difficulties it's very important to note that Shields/Barriers on the enemies are not only much stronger, but don't allow damage to overflow into their health pools, even if they only have a fraction of their shield strength. You must first TOTALLY deplete the shield/barrier before you can cause HP damage. The recharge delay is also very comparable to your own shield recharge delay, so you need to keep the pressure on, or use special ammo (Disruptor, Cryo and Fire work great).

Working up to Gold:
My advice for brand new players (or even vet players w/o unlocks) is start on Bronze, there's no shame in it. Keep doing Bronze rounds until it doesn't feel like a challenge, then move up to Silver. I would say your first priority is to work up to being able to consistently beat all 10 waves (extraction not counting) on Silver. EXP is very easy to come by, as you will mostly be working to get a lot of credits, so picking a level and enemy type, and learning to tear it apart (I do a lot of Cerberus fights on Firebase White for creds) will help you get those (usually) all too awesome Spectre packs. I don't suggest even attempting Gold rounds until your preferred class/playing style is well decked out. I love my Quarian Infiltrator, and I didn't touch Gold until I had my M-98 Widow w/ barrel and scope mods, and was level 20. Also, I recommend saving ALL of your special ammo and one-round use equipment (like rail amps) for Gold only.

My most important tip I can offer to multiplayer in general (besides teamwork, teamwork, more teamwork) is learn to manage your rockets! There's pretty much no reason to use rockets in the first 5 waves, at all, on any difficulty. If you can't work as a team to quickly take out an Atlas/Brute/Bashee/Geth Prime as a team, you have need to work together more. On Gold, vs. Cerberus on wave 10, it's literally Atlases and Phantoms as far as the eye can see. Pissing them away in early waves will leave you kicking yourself, as Gold Wave 10 is easily worth ~30k+ creds. If you can't take out the heavies conventionally, stick to Silver until you can.

Sorry for the wall of text...not playing ME3 again until the "oops all your stuff is gone" glitch is fixed and I'm jonesing for some multiplayer.

It would be great if Bioware patched the default settings of the quick match screen to start the difficulty on bronze and then have "all difficulties" as the last option instead of the first.

Reapers on Gold would be cake with the right setup.

You'd need 5+ capacity on cobra + self rez + health pack for everyone
Rank X weapon(s) and rank X mods
All tier 3 equipment
Krogan soldier for heavy anti armor, hacking survivability. Use rank 3 shield boost, AR with warp ammo for quick barrier purging.
Turian sentinel for shield/armor damage mixup, hacking survivability. Use rank 3 shield boost, carnifex/geth shotgun with fire ammo for quick armor kill
Salarian infil. for anti-shield, 4-point stealth grabbing, stealth rezzing, and extremely high single target damage. Use rank 3 speed boost, sniper with fire ammo for quick armor kill
Human Engineer for shield/armor damage mixup, combat drone spam for stalling. Use rank 3 cooldown boost, SMG with warp ammo for quick barrier dropping

Always take it super slow, move as a pack of 4, and play it very safe except for in which you liberally use rockets to clean house early during hacks, and to drop VIP targets instantly (Since you'd have 20ish, I'd say use 2 on first money wave, 4 on second, 8 on third, and 6 on extraction: Alt. use ZERO rockets if possible on 4-node caps since a good infil with a great stall/bait team can nab them w/o getting blown up).

Was about to be able to pull this off with 3 very dedicated friends, and then my MP profile got reset =/

I always handled the difficulties like this:

Bronze - Play like you want to play, usually lone wolf.
Silver - Stick together
Gold - Have classes the compliment each other and things maxed out.

As for the enemies, the classes you use really make a difference. I mean Silver Geth are easy when you have a Turian Sentinel or people with overload.

and likely frustrating experience

Maybe instead of "warning" us of this supposedly high difficulty, you could take 10 minutes of your life and fix the &#&*%^@ spacebar crap. Trust me, it is WAY more frustrating than anything else in the game at the moment (gameplay-wise). Though I suppose if you ignored this for nearly 4 years there must be some unknown to mortals reason for this still being the main goddamn issue with combat in the game?!??!

WIth a four man team with two Asari Adepts my friends and I beat gold on our very first try, but it was a thrilling challenge! This is the first co-op multiplayer game where I've found myself challenged without being frustrated. It's nice to have a game that's tough on you but not so difficult that it makes you want to pull your hair out and throw your keyboard out the window.

Gold is too easy. They should add platinum.

I find all the modes easy as long as the team I have don't rush off solo and try to be Rambo.

You really don't need all that.  It certainly helps, but all level X weapons isn't necessary, neither is 5 rockets each.  I was spanking Gold in the demo (granted, that was Cerberus, but still a challenge) and you couldn't even use all the characters or mods, and there was a fraction of the weapons (<3 Falcon, excellent suppression).  I have a M98-Widow I, no mods, and I can still 2 shot the commons with shields/barriers, like phantoms and marauders.  I'm not saying the rest of your set-up wouldn't or couldn't work, but by far the most important things you need to bring are communication and teamwork, which is precisely why if my friends aren't online to play, I very, very seldomly do Gold.  Most people just fail at the basics, like not backing themselves into a corner.  The AI tries to do just that, and succeeds quite well a lot of the time.

I've cleared 3 gold rounds so far, one against Reapers if I recall. You don't need to be maxed out, just good team play/comp and reasonable weapons. Adepts and Engineers help a lot, Adepts can still Solo banshees so long as the team keeps the Ravagers off them.

Had to save our rockets for the final wave, so many Brutes and Banshees....
