wow, this was my first time doing multiplayer anything. Not a warm welcome...:) Go in level 1 on Bronze, everyone else is higher, but really struggled after about 20 minutes because the waves just got too strong for my guy. All I could do was run around and not get sodomized by Brutes who could kill me in one shot. That wasn't fair to my teammates, so I had to stop. I will say this: I expected jerks in multiplayer, and I had guys that tried to keep me alive--thanks you guys!--but I was just too weak when theBanshees and Brutes started swarming in. This would be fun skirmish--especially if you could play the way you do in the game. Also, the lack of breaks kinda sucked. I have mild athritis, and I can't play at that intensity for a half hour on end, so apologies to anyone I cost points from....:) Too bad, really, it was kinda cool. Better than I expected.

Seriously, I felt like I went in there with two bullets and a rock...heh heh.

Then play bronze and play lazy: let the other guys do the hard stuff and watch their six. Once you know where the enemy spawn points are on each map you will be of very valuable help for the rest of the team while having a break as long as their is no enemy appearing in the sector you cover.

I like to play that style on bronze as I am lazy by nature and do no longer need the XP. I am just there to farm credits. You may find me more often then not with 0 points after the first two waves, I just shoot at things that threaten my sector and if I am really for a break I waste a grenade to clear my part quickly.  Next wave is a timer task always, I try to help my team to complete that as fast as possible, once the timer is off, another break. And so on. If it happens to be that my sector is the important one, I use voice chat to call for assistance (if needed - occasionally comrades do not notice that the party is really at my place). Depending on the strength of the rest of your team your firepower may be needed on the last waves, always on wave 10 and 11. But that is still a lot of free time. And still fun. Each mission gives me exciting moments (I love the timer tasks) and I got addicted to this game as it is able to deliver a lot of adrenaline to me.

Obviously you have to refuse any offer to play bronze with three or even just two members. As you will have to work really hard then. Unless the other guy is a krogan that is.

I noticed that I love to make a remark about krogans in almost every post I write: if there is a krogan in my team I know that I have a happy break. Those guys rock on bronze if played properly. Uuaaarh.

Even with bronze difficulty, I'm pleasantly surprised by how tough it can be.

I'm in a position where I find bronze slightly too easy and silver slighly too hard. Athough I could win 3 or 4 matches in silver per day, we always use to end at wave 10. I'm not quite sure why that is. I guess lots of people forget to

- take cover
- use missiles on big enemies
- use combo powers the right way.

All that I can do is look out for the smaller enemies in big waves so that I can stasis and headshot them, or use warp.... Yet I am sometimes surprised by spamming troops behind me and I have the idea I'm good at coop in this game but not at quickscoping to headshot that spammer behind me. That might be my flaw in silver.

In silver and gold it's quite impossible to use a pure vanguard build with charge and nova: because a lot of enemy has an high % to make final move in melee, as phantom, brute and banshee, and Ghets do an insane damage with flametrower and missilelauncher...

Difficulty is perfect IMO. Keep it the way it is. Love my human engineer right now.

It's good for you, you are ranged: im talking about vanguard. The difficulty it's not balanced that's all.

I consider Vanguard the strongest class atm. Difficulties are fine, maybe invent a diamond mode some day? 8)

I did find vanguard to be tough at first but once you level it up, then it gets easier to use. I use the Asari vanguard more than the human.

But have you tried vanguard on silver and gold or only bronze? Vanguard is the strongest in bronze but not in silver/gold for sure.

I constantly finish gold with infiltrator/adept/vanguard. If you dont know how to play vanguard properly in gold i would suggest you some youtube vids or smth.
mby u've missed to split nova on lvl 5 ? :)

I have not used vanguard outside of bronze difficulty. I've leveled it up a little but engineer just suits my play style more. I like to keep my range instead of close encounters. Do you use a lot of your power instead of your guns or do you balance out powers and weapons.

In silver i use weapon most of all and my charge and nova only in secure situations or if surrounded by enemies.

That is the mistake, I believe. Vanguard is not a class that is primarily oriented on using weapons.

I always found it optimal to get the ability to use nova twice by reducing its cost at 50% of barriers and to choose the option to fully recharge barriers upon succesful biotic charge hit. To have the option to hit two additional targets also helps. That way, you perform biotic charge and nova in rapid succession and before the enemies pull themselves together, there is another biotic charge and nova. Even if they actually manage to hit you, you stil got the half of the barriers that protects you from any health damage - and barriers are fully restored after next biotic charge.

The key is to minimize cooldown period by taking only the lightest gear to the battle, like shuriken smg or predator pistol - doesn't really matter, there won't be any need to actually use them. Power efficiency mod also helps. It is also highly recommended to max power force and damage bonuses along with weight capacity.

That way, vanguard is almost invincible on silver. The only problem is banshee, but vermin like brutes or ravagers go down quite nicely. Even phantom is managable - you just hit her with biotic charge, jump backwards from reach of her sword and hit her with nova.

Same applies for gold, even though it requires a little more careful approach.

You dont say nothing new to me. But also with  half nova i think it's impossible to use charge and nova in silver and gold without a serious risk to die like a newb,

There is always a risk that you die like a newb, otherwise it would be less fun. :) All I'm saying is that if you master that tactic (which requires quick reflexes and a lot of skill), the payoff is huge. Gold is still a challenge, but silver becomes quite easy.

However, the biggest enemies for vanguard are the latency (ping) issues and bugs. If the ping is too high, there is a significant pause between activating biotic charge and actually performing it that allows your enemies to tear you apart. It is also not very amusing when you get stuck in the walls/floor/skies.

Vanguards could likely solo Bronze. I wouldn't doubt that there are videos of them doing it. Silver is frustrating unless you find a good group. I haven't tried to make friends with people who actively seek to play with skill, so I rarely bother. Gold is suicidal. If anyone has beaten gold with 3 other random people and no mics then you are a Biotic God.

Anyone else find that few people use mics on the PC? Even one other person with a mic makes a huge difference in terms of effective use of powers and sector control?

Bronze isn't hard to solo at all with the right build. The thing is that it's not worth the bother, since you don't get the rewards for all 4 people. Silver isn't that frustrating, since dying is mostly getting stuck on a corner because of space, getting backstabbed by a one hit kill or incredibly bad luck. Other than that, same thing as bronze. Gold requires teamwork, and with two other good players - an infiltrator and a good drell adept, and some random guy (personal experience), it's more than do-able. I'll admit you must be careful in your target selection on gold.

Hi everyone,

We wanted to make you aware of something that could impact your experience if you are just getting started: sometimes when people are matched up via Quick Match, the challenge level will be set to Silver, rather than Bronze. If you are just getting started, this could prove to be a very difficult (and likely frustrating!) experience. Therefore, we recommend that when you are starting a quick match you check the difficulty level (top of the screen): Silver and Gold are considerably harder than Bronze and not designed for starting characters.

It would be nice if it looked at the level of selected character for 'random' difficulty.

You have to be on a pretty abysmal team to lose on bronze once you've found your feet, but silver is still a minefield of inept players who go soloing off the opposite side of the map for no reason whatsoever and get themselves killed.

I've only played Gold a couple of times and was surprised myself and a friend got to the latter waves playing with two other random people. If not for being micced up though, I don't think we'd have made it past wave 3. Without decent communication it'd be chaos, especially against the Geth who are constantly swarming your position with Hunters.

Personally I think BioWare raised the difficulty of Silver and Gold so high that some classes/characters are just unusable. I've managed to beat Silver, but the annoyance of getting knocked to the floor so easily and having to repeatedly wait for a revive or till the Infiltrator manages to snipe the last few enemies is enough to dissuade me from playing Silver or Gold.
