With the new weapon/weight system, I can see ME3 bringing countless more builds to the game.
I love trying out new, unique, and to be frank, bad idea builds if I can get away with it.
The Melee-filtrator is one of those builds.
Relying on points in Tactical Cloak, Ftiness, and points in alliance training if you want to keep your cooldown speed optimal.
It's not the best build in the world, but in casualy Public Groups, I'm in first place most of the time (in fact the only thing that reliably beats me a friend of mine who is god-tier at infiltrator with a sniper. The screenshot was just a simple game I decided to screen shot. Not my best game, just one decent one with a PUG.

The play style relies on being almost almost cloaked, running behind advancing groups of enemies focues on your allies, and decloak with a Heavy Melee (which, on Bronze, with the proper Cloak Build, will 1-shot anything short of an Atlas) to the isolated unit in back, and for the next thirty seconds thanks to the "Martial Artist" perk in Fitness, proceed to 1-2 shot everything.
Also, Grab-Kills...ALL THE GRAB KILLS
In larger groups you should not get greedy and take down more than 1 enemy while unlcoaks before rolling around and gettin cloaked again ASAP.
If you encounter an Atlas, you will have to fall back to your guns to down it's shields, but once it's down to armor, use sticky grenade, and CAREFULLY Cloaked Heavy Melee attacks. The Atlas can see you if you get near it's legs, so when you strike, hit from behind, and roll out of there imediatly. Each Heavy Melee strike can take two bars of Armor down each time with the proper build.
Phantoms are both your Eastiest Prey and Worst Nightmare. You can 1-shot them for a JUICY 1000 XP, AFTER significant skill investment. They can see you if you touch them before you strike, and they can get those blades out before yours. You need to basically make your blade meet thier face before they even notice your there. Eventually, I learned to look forward to the Phantom rounds. It's more Free-XP for me.
Pros:
-Can 1-shot all units on Bronze, (even Phantoms, though you got to be smart)
-Great for keeping the enemy distracted for the rest of you team. Guardians are difficult for this build, but having them turn thier back to your allies to try and get you is a nice way to get rid of them
-Being a Ninja Badass
-Actually not terrible for getting high scores on Bronze
-GODS of the "Kill VIPs" Objective rounds. Cloak, sprint, assassinate.
Cons:
-Highly Risky. Your strategy to go behind enemy lines and risk getting downed with an army between you and the allies who can help you.
-Light Weight Weapon-Build. This build requires you travel light so you can be cloaked quickly in these high-risk situations you will be putting yourself in. This means holding a sniper, or even a handy close range shotgun in these panic situation maybe a poor decision without the proper build. Try sticking to the SMGs and pistols unless your feeling daring. (I still havent gotten a Bayonet Mod. We'll see how that works with this)
-Guardians will mess you up unless your SURE your melee hit will kill them before they notice you. Guardians are a bit more aware of cloaked players than others.
- So far, (I'm only level 17 with not the best weapons yet), Silver ranked matches cripple this build. It's not impossible, but you realize that the only thing you can no long 1-shot Centurians, Phantoms, and even an engineer might survive your cloaked-heavy blade.
The Life of a Melee Infiltrator. A Phantom killing Ninja.

Yeah man, I've been doing the exact same thing, except with a shotgun. I've never cared for sniping in ME games, but with the weight system, take a shotgun and pistol and cloak is recharging at sub 4 seconds. Meaning you can basically cloak from target to target. Also of note is that sticky grenade doesn't break cloak, so charge a group of enemies, cloak, stick a grenade, and go to town.
So much fun.
My build is a bit different though. Its all about the shotgun. You want maximum damage on your sneak attack. And stick grenades are absolutely vital.
I just cleared Silver with 1 partner as a level 11 human infil using these tactics. And it was a blast
CQC Infil is a legit build, I am routinely top of the chart and cloak makes it so useful for reviving and getting to objectives quick.

I like this build actually, but didn't go with it atm, maybe on human or smth
I'm using Salarian Infiltrator.
Using Sniper + heavy pistol.
When i group and new wave comes I can get rid of many enemies with sniping.
When in CQC I usually switch to sidearm and bang enemies down.
if there's a tougher enemy I usually first thow on energy drain = shield down = dead easily.
energy drain also works if u missed some shots, throw energy drain on = enemy is frozen couple of seconds = reload = dead
Grenade is also good, some AOE stuff really atm to me. range + to strip enemies down and make them weak.
I find meleeing too SLOW. I can pump a headshot or two with sidearm in close quarters and love the mobility to fun around.

I say Vanguards are great for VIP kills as well.....but this seems interesting but I think I will try it for my female Infiltrator once I unlock my a second type of infiltrator.

Thanks for sharing! I love how MP allows us to "mix it up" like this.

Lets try to keep the number of necros to a minimum, shall we? Lest we we be left wading through a graveyard.

OK, can we please stop necros, now ?

It's anniversary. I think we should let those necro go up a little. It's not like if it was allowed every days of the year.
An anniversary is messy : old talks about old times with old friends, new perspectives, dude throwing up in the tap, beers everywhere and songs, and broke objects, and broke people.
And after that, we clean that up and move on.
I think it is healthy for the forum to revive some threads and put things in perspective, talk about it and allow BSN the "S".

Last I checked that still seemed to work.
But seriously, what's up with all the necros?

I still do that all the time. Killing a phantom with a quarian light melee is massively satisfying.

1. Hm. I might try melee Infil sometime again (non-Shadow of course).
2. Some posts that are being necro'd have good points about gameplay. I necro'd this one solely to represent ME3 has MP has been successful for a full year considering how a large majority thought it would fail. That & what OP said made made my sh*t bricks laughing considering I imagined him attempting to do that on Gold nowadays.

I wonder how OP would have felt if he'd known the Shadow was coming?
