Can't we just agree that ME2 was the worst in the series.

As for ME3, I've tried the demo and I have walked away from it with mixed feelings. I won't know what ME3 is going to be like until I've played the final game form start to finish but so far I am very unhappy with the confirmed ME3 squad and as far as gameplay is concerned I'm not really sure if I like all off ME3's new gameplay features, aside from the crappy story, planet scanning and the excessive use of the hacking/bypassing mini games I di not think there was anything wrong with ME2, why fix something that is not broken?

Mass Effect 2 sucked me in and never let go. I don't care why it's awesome from a technical standpoint. Never have characters felt so real and a plight felt so earnest. The gameplay mechanics polarized some but never felt dull or tired.
ME1 made me love the franchise, but ME2 made it possibly my favorite game of all time.

Mass Effect 1 was a dependably engrossing BioWare game that, through its gameplay as well as its story, delivered IMO the most believable, complete and involving universe than had ever been seen in gaming. Rivalling Star Wars etc (again, IMHO). The story influenced the gameplay and not the other way around, and Shepard, whatever you may think of their voice actors, is an iconic hero and a milestone achievement for storytelling in the industry.

Bingo. ME1 was so engrossing that it allowed me to overlook the story flaws in ME2 and love it for what it is. However, I don't know what's gonna happen now.

ME 2 took the record for most Game of the Year awards ever from Uncharted 2 in 2010 (Although Skyrim may have surpassed ME2) and is one of the few games constantly spinning in my PS3. Honestly, the BSN is ridiculous. The BSN equivelant of a "good" game is an old 8-bit text-based side scrolling RPG that relies exclusively on long, text-based problems for no actual reward or entertainment.
ME2 has better graphics, sound, and gameplay than ME1 so it's better. From the demo ME3 has better graphics, sound, and gameplay than ME2 so the demo is better. I'll have to wait on the story but between the improvements showcased in the demo and the extremely entertaining multiplayer it appears that ME3 will be the best in the series and I don't care what any "long-time faithful" fan has to say.
I totally agree with you man! I don't think everyone on BSN is ridiculous but there are a lot of really annoying people with nothing but lame complaints to contribute.
I think the series represents a solid progression as technology and the art of game developing improved over the years. Why wouldn't the series improve? It's the same amazing team developing the games. As their resource pool gets larger and technology allows them to do more and more, obviously the games are going to get better! Why woudn't they?
There are a lot of people on here WAY too focused on nitpicking stupid little details that the rest of the world doesn't give a sh*t about. They don't realize that, of course. Whatever, people liek that won't stop me from enjoying ME3 to its fullest, even if the walking animation isn't perfect, even thought I have a PS3 and the frames per second is 31 rather than 33, even if the anti-aliasing is 3.2 instead of 3.5, etc, etc

I feel bad that I can't feel engrossed in ME 1's story. In fact, I think it's of equal quality as KOTOR, and the only reason I even liked KOTOR was the Star Wars IP.

Man, so many arguments on these forums. I wonder how the moderators put up with everybody with out going insane (I feel for yah, Chris Priestly).
That said I want to provide a little common ground. People disagree on multiplayer, homosexuality, the shooter mechanics, textures, diolauge, gameplay, customization, soundtrack, hell I could go on. But all that said I think we can agree that out of the ME1, MEG, ME2 and ME3, ME2 is and will be the worst, for several reasons.
To name a few:
1. Story was filler.
2. Character backstories where not connected to the main plot in anyway, Dragon Age 2 did a good job at this.
3. Soundtrack was not as good as the previous game.
4. Combat was improved, but not improved enough. Mass Effect 3 has pervected the combat system, though the clunky and sketch gameplay of Mass Effect 1 will always have a place in my heart.
Well I dont think anyone outside of the dev team has played ME3 from beggining to end so I'll hold on my vedict. As for ME2 being the worst in the series I have to respectfuly disagree, I think people fail to see that ME2 was a more character driven story, it was about getting a team together & preparing for a possible one way trip into uncharted space. It had the difficult task of being the "middle" of the trilogy but I dont think of it as filler by a long shot.

ME2 had far superior combat , more interesting locatons, and in 22 years of gaming I've never felt so emotionally engaged to a group of characters for good or bad - people who genuinely evolved with you on your suicidal journey.
Add this to sheer number of interesting different builds that you could mould for each class and the tactics used also makes it my most replayed of all time.
As good as ME1 was I ran through it twice with 2 different sheps and that was enough. I've lost count of my ME2 eun-throughs, though it must be over 20.

What is great about ME2 -
Soundtrack in ME2 is better than ME1, I've been geeking out to ME2 soundtrack since December.
Story didn't have as much progression as ME1, but it added depth, you understood the reapers motives better.
Characters are amazing, you got to see more in depth into Tali/Garrus, which there hardly was much in ME1.
There are actually different types of weapons and not just a more powerful version of the same thing.
What is great about ME1 -
The story was progressive.
Kaidan and Wrex and Liara.(If these characters weren't just cameos in ME2, they wouldn't be in this list)
Better leveling up system.
There were some interesting missions like the feros one, where you either kill or save the humans indoctrinated by the thorian.
Bad about ME2 -
Firewalker
Poor levelling system
Bad about ME1
Combat is broken
Mako by itself wouldn't be so bad but the planets that I had to use it on were boring as hell and just the same texture repeated either in white/ grey/ brown.
I'm torn between ME1 and ME2. They have their good points and bad points. I can't choose between either.

With that said, ME2 improved a lot and lost a bit too. I want my moon buggy back. I want my elevators back. I want crouch back. I want Bioware to take that stupid plane back. I want the planet mining mini-game to be in the plane's cargo hold when it crashes in Bioware's parking lot after being hit by the customary two droplets of bird poo that turn it into a flaming wreck.
I want my shotguns to sound like the end of the world like in ME1. But I want my Concussive Shot, Pull, Slam, Lift, and Warp to continue to sound and act like someone just got dominated, a la ME2.
I don't need any more stacked crates. Anywhere. Ever.
I'll take the attention to character depth, and better love scenes from ME2. And I appreciate Bioware's attempts to make the characters more than just "the crew who were assigned to the Normandy who talk loud enough to actually understand".
Really, this is an unfair fight for the last two games. There is no way they can displace the original in my heart. But that does not mean I could ever pick a "worst". Worst implies "bad", and that hasn't applied yet.

ME1 was a darned good game . Sure, it had a few tiny issues, but it was well ahead of its time. The story was epic, the telling of it was great, and the characters were a lot of fun.
ME2 had some issues that I despised.
For one - Fire whomever decided that a termi-reaper was a viable thing. Its ok, there is no rush - just clean out their desk and push them out of their dingy cubicle. I'm sure they are more fit for a challenging position doing... well... anything else - as long as it has nothing to do with computers, or games - or anything that uses or even has electrons in it.
For 2 - take that mining game and make the terdburgler who invented it play it constantly. You get paid your full salary, with 2 whole 5 minute breaks a day and a non-paid lunch - and three FREE sheets of single ply. The FIRST time they even look like they think they might be discontent, fire them with the same rules as the termi-reaper inventor.
For three, find out who wanted crates and cover to be sticky with mouse trap glue. Just fire that dude. I'm not even going to get into how I would punish them in the eternal fires of Mordor while getting gang probed by Orcs in white lab coats and splash goggles and thick rubber gloves. It suffices to say that the Reapers will be defeated or the next extinction cycle will be done by the time these fictitious Orcs are through.
Other than those 3 very bad flaws, ME2 was a great game. I would say easily top ten of all time. I loved the character depth, the graphics, the guns - all but those three flaws that make you so mad you could eat a live chocolate puffin while it flopped around squawking.
All in all, I am stoked for ME3! *Looks for another chocolate puffin*
