Can't we just agree that ME2 was the worst in the series.

I already think ME2 is better than ME1, so ME2 can't be the worst, at least, for me.

Although I don't think many would argue that ME2 was greater than ME1...
ME1 was epic.

Alot of people would actualy, it depends on how you judge better. Writing wise ME 1 was superior but the gameplay in ME 1 is horrible in comparison to 2

A lot is opinion based, but bugs aside, ME1 gameplay could arguably be better if you want the RPG-ish approach.

I haven't played ME1 because I only have a PS3, but in late March I'll be borrowing an Xbox to play it. Should I wait to play ME3 until after that? It might make it more meaningful. Or I could treat it like a prequel and play it last.

Don't play Mass Effect 3 until you've finished Mass Effect and (the absolutely excellent game that is) Mass Effect 2.
To answer the OP question, no, we can't. ME2 is a great game. It's probably just a troll, but for being such a blatant one, pretty effective.

I've played ME2 and agree it's excellent. If it's supposedly the worst in the series then the other 2 games must be super amazing. Thanks for the advice. I will wait and play ME1 first.

no, ME2 is not only the best of the series so far, but it's also one of the best games of the generation. ME1 is just a great game.

- Jacob helped you escape the Lazarus Station.
- Mordin was reponsible for finding a repellant to the Seeker Swarms.
- Tali and Garrus both had previous experience in raping a reaper
- Grunt was the consolation prize for recruiting Warlord Okeer (who had a large amount of information on the Collectors and used Collector technology to create Grunt.
- Samara is a justicar - sworn to protect the galaxy and its inhabitants from dangerous threats.Morinth wa her mother and only promised to help you so she could live (as seen post-Collector mission in which she kills you...)
- Kasumi and Zaeed were both contracted by Cerberus to help you stop the Collectors.
- Legion was recruited because Shep and Legion both oppose the Reapers who had managed to turn someGeth into Heretics.
- Jack was created by Cerberus and paid for as a slave to help you in the Suicide Mission (Cerberus didn't care if she died)
- Thane is a dying assassin who is concerned for humanity and doesn't care for impossible odds.

1. Story was filler:
I agree, totally with this. 90% was finding a new crew and 10% dealt with actual Reaper threat.
2. Character backstories where not connected to the main plot in anyway, Dragon Age 2 did a good job at this.
Again, agreed. While I like the new characters, I was asking myself, 'WHY BOTHER?' the whole time. I missed old crew too much to care about new
3. Soundtrack was not as good as the previous game: Disagreed, totally. Loved the Soundtrack, personally.
4. Combat was improved, but not improved enough. Mass Effect 3 has pervected the combat system, though the clunky and sketch gameplay of Mass Effect 1 will always have a place in my heart.
Disagreed. It felt like 80% of Bioware resources were used to make this a much more accessible game, playwise. Too bad 20% spent on Plot and story.
My responses, in RED

ME1,though imperfect and maybe unfinished, was just the perfect blueprint for space-faring adventure (an original mix of RPG,shooter and even some sandbox), even thought i disagree with every single one of the OPs arguments.
ME2 had a good story, just a different direction. The universe virtually blossomed by the countless characters and locations.. .. just the amount of sheer context the game added.
However the game and world design, was simplified to the near minimum... No exploration,( the series ones prided itself on)... extreme linearity, (just imagine Omega or Ilum, build around the blueprint of the ME1 Citadel)....monotone uninspired level-design, pointless nonesensical mini-game, stripped customization and progression, no party banter, no backtracking or reason to ever revisit a location,... complete absence of any item system..
So much depth,....... just...... gone
Honestly it makes me a little sad..., .... and ..... well... nevermind ....why do i even bother?
Just,.... Oh what could have been.. (Still liked ME2 though)

ME1 had better pacing and controls than ME1 and didn't suffer from copy-pasted environments and a shoddy but unnecessary inventory.
ME1 is a great game but to me ME2 was slightly better.
