Besides more species, we only have two other combat species, three if you bother counting the Vorcha. What good would that do?

Blasto the Hanar Spectre! Hanar have been shown to be effective in combat. Zaeed even mentions nearly being choked to death

That's the exception, not the rule. Blasto was a joke produced into television. Even Thane comments that while the Hanar can do damage, they prefer not to.

Not additional species entirely but more unique race/class combos like a Turian Infiltrator or a Quarian Soldier

True, but then at this point we're taking redundancies in what the game stereotypes them. It would become this is my favorite race, I want to use them with this class even though there's no point now.
