I'm still a little bit in doubt how to play a Vanguard in multiplayer.

In single-player, I already decided I want to fully spec my Vanguard to deal as much damage as possible with melee and shotguns. Survivability in single-player is a less a concern because I don't mind dying in singleplayer (I'll just retry the same part again).

However, in multiplayer I still haven't decided whether I should spec my Vanguard to be the best damage-dealer, or to spec her more towards a build with a little more survivability (extra health and shield perks 'n stuff) so I won't go down as much.

So, what do you guys think?

Personally, I'm thinking to go for extra shields and health but also for extra shotgun damage. Then I'll rely less on heavy melee but more on my shotty. Does this sound like a good plan?

Im a damage dealing tank? Phantoms have nothing on me...unless there is a turrent shooting me.

Bio Charge is epic when maxed out with the 100% Shield restore and you carry a Heavy pistol (forget Name) but it blows heads off.

I skipped Nova since I dont like the fact I lose my shield....

Damage dealer, actualy there's little need for a tank on the mp, at least not on bronze and silver, haven't tried gold yet. But ANY extra survivability is welcome, but as a vanguard your main concern should be dispatch as many enemies as possible, before look for cover.

So how about the lowest skill tree, did you go for tha maximum health and shield upgrades, or for the maximum melee damage upgrades?

If you're going for a Charging / Nova Vanguard, I'd say buff the health and shields. But, if you had the good fortune to acquire a Asari Vanguard and want to go the Bubble Stasis / Charging route, then buff your weapons damage.

Mind you, these choices aren't a do or die issue - unless you're playing on Silver or Gold difficulty. NOTE: You can't respec your MP characters during the demo period (as far as we know), so decide well. Have fun.

So what do you think about my possible build? Going for the extra shields and health in the lowest skill tree (Survivability tree) while maxing out on weapon damage in the other skill trees? That way heavy-melee won't be very useful to me, but I would be harder to take down and I'd do massive damage with my shotgun.

Any ideas?

On my level 16 vanguard, i'm a pure tank. I have charge fully upgraded to regain my sheilds back after I hit anyone and I am one rank away from having fitness fully upgraded so my sheilds and health are stronger.

I personally think that being a tank is way better. You are almost unstopable and can still deal a lot of damage.

I tank a lot with my Vanguard in MP. Especially when the "High Value" target mission is on and the Nemesis is the high-value target. I'll charge, biotic punch then shotgun to the face.

This sounds like the way I want to go too with my H/F Vanguard. Hopefully that build will allow me to kick ass on Silver and Gold.

I hope I'll unlock the Asari Vanguard soon though!

When playing Vanguard, I like zipping around and giving enemies a shotgun to the face. It's a lot harder to do if they rip through my shields and myself before I can do that though, so I maxed out defense instead of offense. I very rarely melee. I only use it when I happen to be out of ammo after a charge. Since this is just the demo, you should just experiment and see which paths' playstyle fits you best.

Well Im level 19 as a vanguard....

I have Max Health, and skipped the Melee parts
I havent maxed out Alliance training but I have full power on that tree...
Maxed out Charge
Maxing out Shockwave once I level up...

I usually used Bio Charge, and finish off with my pistol or Bio Charge, Heavy Melee, Roll, Bio Charger, When they have no shield/Barrier I get a head shot with my epic pistol of death....

BUT NEVER CHARGE IN IF THERE IS A TURRENT THEY WILL RIP YOU TO SHREDS...

I built my female Vanguard to be like the Mass Effect 2 version. Basically max barrier/defensive in the passives. Honestly on gold you notice the extra defense more than the extra damage.

Here is a video: Although audio formatting went crazy on me.

I don't even have to use my shotgun as Vanguard to be really viable. I got so short charge cooldown that I can just spam it away. So I just use heavy melee's, nova's and Avenger assault rifle, it works both, from close and from far really well. :)

I use my Drell Vanguard for Damage dealing aswell. I have a Shotgun and SMG with a scope for some long range shooting if need be.

Why not both? Nova is pretty baller; the high damage AoE pretty much facewipes anyone in range. Sure, you lose 95% of your barrier, but who cares? Another charge pretty much lets you facewipe again.

Just carry one light weapon to make sure you get the 200% recharge cooldown bonus, and carry AP ammo for Guardians, and you're a walking god... unless against turrets.

I prefer dealing high damage. It's kind of hard for a Drell to be a tank even with fitness upgrades. Agile as heck though.

Biotic Charge + Nova (in that order) is isane! Absolutely over-powered. The guys I played with complained that I was stealing all the kills. You teleport into a group of enemies and take all of them down in a single hit, then rinse and repeat 2 seconds later.

It's that mean, that you end up running after Phantoms and Atlas' so you can take them down, instead of running away from them like you do with most other characters.

+1 This is precisely what I was trying and it's insanely powerful. The turrets can be weakened with the pistol, followed up by a biotic charge and then a nova.

Just make male human tank and female human damage dealer. We'll all have to start over again soon anyway so just mess around. I made my female human infil roll with only a shotgun and its the most fun I've had playing a game in a long time

I went tank and I use an SMG. Slam into target then circle around it filling with "bullets".

Damage Dealer for my Drell, I kinda thought soldiers were tanks (level 20 Soldier Male and Krogan make me unstoppable in games).
