en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-altitude_balloon

High-altitude balloons are unmanned balloons, usually filled with helium or hydrogen that are released into the stratosphere, generally reaching between 60,000 to 120,000 feet (18 to 37 km).

Our weather department had a balloon that went well in excess of the stratosphere. I'd have to look at the data again to see what the exact altitude was, but if it didn't get 300,000, it was close. And that was a balloon launched from a college campus. Lol.

What would be hilarious if this ends up getting the attention of alien life, like in Star Trek First Contact.

Just imagine the game landing on the roof of your house while you're chilling on a sunday afternoon. All of a sudden the doorbell goes and out in front there are three hundred BSN nerds screaming for a ladder.

I think this is retarded. When it comes back in to the atmosphere, pretty sure it would melt.

Yeah...that's not what's retarded here.

So from what I understand with the weather balloons/high A balloons they use to send thing up into high atmosphere (technically not space, doesn't leave earth, enters stratosphere) They pretty much go straight up, they don't tend to wonder as much some people believe. I doubt any of them would land in the sea.
But if they're just going to attach a game to the base like the picture, there's no guarantee it would survive the fall.
It's pretty cool, but also totally stupid.

Luckily one of my friends works for ESA :wizard:. But I doubt he has access to any equipment able to get those copies to the ground before they drop them...

Watch all the copies land in areas filled with vicious wild animals or neighborhoods filled with gang violence. Anyone who tries to get the copies will only get terminated in the process.

Are they just releasing the boxes, or will these boxes actually have discs in them? I hope they're going to wraped up at least.

Won't most of them just fall into the ocean or something? Most of them are being launched from cities next to water.

If you release it in New York City, Won't the prevailing winds drop it into the Atlantic Ocean?
