From the official Mass Effect 3 twitter:
https://twitter.com/#!/masseffect

@masseffect For the PC version, will there be more graphics options or an HD texture pack?
@ryand86 When the full game releases, hi-res textures will be built into the game! #masseffect3

Can we get a dev to comfirm this, in comparison to what we saw in the demo?

Is that not a dev confirming this? It's a statement from Bioware marketing, at least.

Unless they are saying the existing textures are "high res." Which they are obviously not.

It's a marketing statement, which is why I don't hold it up too highly, as they may simply be referring to their percieved high quality of textures already in the game, and thus what is in the demo.

So, if the game does ship with 'high resolution textures', which the demo clearly does not have (hence the onslaught of complaints), then it would be nice for a developer to back up this tweet and clarify if there are indeed differences between the demo and final build.

And after the debacle of the ****** poor marketing in the run up to the release of Dragon Age 2 you still actually trust a word Bioware Marketing says?

Lol.

I think it clearly implies that the PC version will ship with higher-quality textures than is available in the demo (all three platforms use the same assets in the demo as far as I'm aware).

Which is fine, even if they end up not being ultra-high-resolution textures.

One can only hope, the clothing/uniform/armor resolution definitely needs ramping up.

I'll believe it when I see it. They couldn't even be bothered to fix Garrus's missing face texture in the PC version of Mass Effect.

Right now the clothes textures look to be 512x512 (maybe even 256x256), which is beyond terrible (they need 2048x2048 to be any good). I expect that's what the vast majority of the textures are. Normandy is probably 1024x1024 and faces are probably 1024x1024/512x512 as well. All faces need to be at least 1024x1024 and the Normandy needs a 2048x2048 texture at least.

I seriously doubt they'll actually do that.

I wouldn't say it will be shipped with the textures; it has become a bit of the norm to put the high-res texture codes into a patch and release it Day 1.

Because it would have taken a patch that would have been a couple gigs big, this was stated several times by BioWare when they answered why they wouldn't do it.

It would be nice to move away from the excessive pixelation of the last two games

It's cute that you actually believe that. Sad, but cute.

How is it a modder could do it with a file a couple of megs in size?

No, the textures in the demo were deliberately toned down because of the size limit for demo's.

Seems like you need to brush up on your knowledge of texture compression and average file sizes, because the ME2 HQ texture mods were far from "a couple of megs in size". In fact, my folder of textures is just shy over 500mb in size, and that is just for the characters. To be fair, the texture mods are of very high resolution, unusual for even most PC games, but the point remains.

A full high res texture pack, and by full I mean covering every texture in the game, which includes all characters (major and NPC), weapons, environment, skyboxes, decals, and everything else, you're looking at easily 1GB+. That's the reality of it.

But it should have shipped with the game in the first place, so these problems don't crop up at all.

If this turns out to be true and actually high res, all they need to do is unbind Use / Cover / Storm / Roll / Make a Sandwich / Scratch Shepard's Nether Regions from one button and at least offer the option to spread out some of those actions over a few different buttons. Pre-order will be remade swiftly.

Your arrogance is misplaced.

http://www.facepunch...ion-Texture-Mod It's the second last file on the page

The actual fix for Garrus's face is only 658.58 KB in size, uncompressed it's a couple of megs.

Feel free to eat crow.

I see no problem with it being over 1GB, Skyrim released the free HD texture pack and that was about 3GB I think.
