The actual fix for Garrus's face is only 658.58 KB in size, uncompressed it's a couple of megs.

Feel free to eat crow.

Ah, my mistake, and apologies. But you can keep your crow.

I see no problem with it being over 1GB, Skyrim released the free HD texture pack and that was about 3GB I think.

No, it's a couple of megs to fix his face, proof above.

You do realize the subject is texture "pack" not a single file right?, Qarls texture pack for fallout came in at nearly 2gigs.

Take a look at my original post and the reply I received to get some context.

This fix uses texmod -just saying. That's really not a road BW could have gone. Texmod switches textures "on the fly". It adds itself as a second layer to the running game and listens for it to call on the texture-file in question -when it does texmod injects the new file instead of the old.
That works fine if it's just one or two textures, but when you actually want to fix many things like clothing or so it really jaggs up the loadtimes and hogs cpu-power.

...that's also the reason why texmod is popular with "those" kind of mods, but is rarely used otherwise. All in all it's a very "hack-ish" approach to the issue and not something a company could release as a "fix" for their own game.

Sounds really great! I don't see any reason to not believe it. It's their official twitter.

From the official Mass Effect 3 twitter:
https://twitter.com/#!/masseffect

@masseffect For the PC version, will there be more graphics options or an HD texture pack?
@ryand86 When the full game releases, hi-res textures will be built into the game! #masseffect3

Can we get a dev to comfirm this, in comparison to what we saw in the demo?

So, let me get this straight, you want an official source to confirm an official source? What?

Sweeet, my PC is doing the happy dance! :o

Look, it was a programming glitch. The texture was actually there. There is no way an official fix would have been a 2 Gigs in size. All of ME's textures barely came to that.

Now, let's get back on topic.

Definition and clarification is more important than a single, relatively vague statement. I've worked in PR and know all too well that sometimes PR gets confused, stating something that isn't quite true, or is easily misinterpreted.

What I'd like is clarification of this statement relative to the demo build. That is the point of reference. Simply stating said textures will be shipped with the game does not guarenty me that said textures are better than the demo, even if I would never consider the demo's textures 'high resolution'.

It should be pretty easy to confirm or deny by a developer. Either the PR is referring to the textures we know, or indeed the demo build did not include higher resolution assets. We'll see.

I'm excited by this news, but I'd also like a dev to come in and confirm, since it's almost too good to be true.

one would think bioware would have replied in one of the many threads here in the forums about high res textures..but so far the only comment is a vague one by marketing on twitter

That Twitter account is run by Chris Priestly, right? I once asked if ME2 would get high-res textures and he said it already has them, so I don't believe it until I see it.

I have ~1 TeraB left on the hd, a GTX 590 with 3GB ram, and 16GB system ram. Make 'em 8192x8192 or bigger.

Yeah, it wont happen until 2020....:crying:

I'm serious about my rig though.

If it's true it would be awesome and seriously one of the best news for us PC people. A dev confirmation would be great though. Just to have it on paper.

I'm just saying BW might not have lied with the whole GB-big patch thingie.

But anyhow. I'm glad that we actually get high-res textures for PC this time arround. Always bugged me a bit about ME1+2 on PC.

Jessica. You can ask her if you're unsure that she knows what she's talking about.

The recommended specs for the game do not seem to support this. They only recommend a 512 mb graphics card.

Yeah, but if there is a hi-def texture option, the recommended specs would probably be for the "regular textures".

Wow you beat me too! I only have 700GB left (then again my rig is only 1TB to begin with), are you using a 2TB drive?

Anyway, I take this news with a pinch of salt. If the demo was the High Res texture 'built in' I was not impressed.

"@likchan The final edition of the game will have hi-res textures included in it, no additional pack will be required to download."

so it wont be a seperate pack..and afaik the game went gold before the demo was released so its already being copied and shipped to stores? so either the demo textures were a seperate low res just for the demo, or this is misleading marketing
