I doubt there will be a high res texture pack unless they find some way to exclude it from MP. I know I wouldn't want someone lagging all over the place cause their rig can't handle textures. :P

That's their own problem, not bioware's. If they can't handle it then they should just turn down the textures.

That's the problem i'm not sure there is a way to turn off the textures the way ME3's graphical options are setup (I was checking ME3 config last night in demo folder).  Anything short of uninstalling the textures everytime you MP would be the only option (Edit: I see so far).

Edit 2:

Also I get what you're saying about people who install texture packs on low rigs being responible, but we all know there will be some peeps out there that want high graphics over performance all the time.  MEaning other players would have to suffer for their performance issues.  The same way in Dawn of War II's Last Stand coop mode with people having graphics set to high, have bad connections and lag out the whole team.

"someone lagging all over the place" is not caused by high res textures. that has more to do with their internet connection (if you mean lag as in you looking at that laggy person skipping around)

yes, any MMO was use the cry engine 3 and the unreal engine 3, and have hight quality for the texture,

or take Saint Row The Third, for pc have support to Directx 10 and 11, and this title support the co-op .

They announced a hi-res pack for DA2, they also released said hi-res pack for DA2 on release day, it was a 1gb pack.

@Balek-Vriege for the high res pack with DA2 there was an option in the video settings to change the textures from very high (hi res pack, since very high wasn't there before the pack was installed) to high. I am guessing it will be similar if we get one for ME3. Not that it matters because high video settings don't cause "lag" they mainly cause longer loading screens.

Yes.. Yes.. most have. What makes BioWare the exception?

Some spam removed. Sarevok Snyder, DJBare, I'd appreciate it if you didn't keep engaging in argument with someone spouting inappropriate material. The more i have to edit or remove your posts, the more likely it is that you may be banned for reposting inappropriate material. Thank you.

Fair enough Stanley.

Maybe you can shed some light on the High-Res texture pack rumors, please?

That's true. I forgot about the option to disable high res in DAII.

Eh.. DA2 kind of came with more than just an HD Pack. Came with a DX11 Option to compliment that. Ironically, why is HD Pack used as a marketting ploy now? Shouldn't it just come with a PC Game from the get go?

You'd also be wrong on "Longer Load Times" and "Not Causing Lag." Higher Resolution textures require more memory, in return if you don't have sufficient memory you will take a performance hit. It will actually do both of the above, longer load times (Unless you have an SSD) and performance issues if your rig isn't up to par.

I don't think Stanley is a Mass Effect dev.

I am just ignorant on how the co-op system deals with lag.  Does one person lagging affect the whole team, meaning they lag as well to let the other person catch up (SC1 and SC2 would be examples I know of) or do they simply become unresponsive, standing in place and general delays between actions (not rubber banding and teleporting all over the place)?

Neogaf posted yesterday that the demo texture files were 1/3 the size of comparable files in "ME2":

neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php

So this news is kinda obvious. They had to cut a few things to meet the demo size requirements. HD textures obviously being one of those things.

I wonder why they are so quiet about it though? if thats the case wouldnt they want to clarify so people dont think its how the final game will be? the only time they have commented on the textures is in the twitter, but even the comment there can be taken different ways

Anti aliasing and high quality textures? Woah. Can't believe I'll eat some of my words.

I'm very happy with that. :)

Because even when they answer questions people still ****. Or they just say the answer is also a lie. If you were a dev would yo really want to deal with these ****s? I know I wouldn't.

The answer is ambiguous. They say the final version will have high res textures which would mean nothing if in their opinion the demo has high res textures.

Not sure. It could be because they're currently 3ish weeks away from the launch of the game, and can't answer sooner. Even so, given the fact that we know the textures of the demo are 1/3 their normal size + this Twitter response, it can't really be interpreted too many ways. The demo had sh*tty textures because of the size constraints, the game will not.

It's not ambiguous, at all. The texture files are 1/3 their normal size in the demo. The Tweet is saying the game will have HD textures built in. Not sure what else needs to be said really.

If they confirm a high res pack is in the works, I doubt they will be accused of lying. Unless of course they failed to release it, like id have done with Rage.

A full high res texture pack, and by full I mean covering every texture in the game, which includes all characters (major and NPC), weapons, environment, skyboxes, decals, and everything else, you're looking at easily 1GB+. That's the reality of it.

1GB ist's like nothing. Considereing some games nowadays use 15-20GB of disk space...

I will keep doubting this until they prove it with some images/videos because of this:

Fredvdp wrote...

That Twitter account is run by Chris Priestly, right? I once asked if ME2 would get high-res textures and he said it already has them, so I don't believe it until I see it.

I remember this "there is no need for high texture pack because the game already has them" and it was very frustrating to hear that.

Gotta agree with Hex on this one. The demo clocked in at ~2 gb, which is obviously incredibly limited compared to a complete release game in this day and age. I would suspect that they reduced texture sizes moderately to severely to allow for the inclusion of more content into the demo. If not, then I sure hope that they do release a true high-res pack at some point. Not much use having a gaming PC if I can't put it through it's paces. I used Texmod for ME2, but like a previous poster mentioned, it's a highly imperfect and needlessly laborious means of implementing something which should be in a game to begin with.

As for the arguments about recommended specs, or how not most people wouldn't even be able to use the textures, I have only this to say:

Options are great. To quote some of the more well known forumites, "You don't have to use it". It won't be forced on you, and it can only improve community reaction all around. Nothing wrong with a win-win.

I would love to have a dev confirm the OP this on the forum. And not a marketing rep, either!
