Now that enemies are more dynamic on the battlefield, moving around all the time and such and seeing as the maps are fairly close quarters (if the demo is anything to go by) are sniper rifles actually any use do you suppose?

Edit: I've played multiplayer; they are certanly useful.

They will be when they are also snipers shooting at you.

I've watched the mp demos on IGN and yeah, they'll be of use. Of course, you can get a scope on the matock and that'll be a poor man's SR, but I figure if that's possible, then an infiltrator with an upgraded SR can do some serious one-shot kills or cover-penetration.

What it probably will be is from a long range "reach out and touch them" role to a squad marksman role (think of current military designated marksmen running M14 EBR's and the like).

The level in thresher maw vs reaper trailer looks pretty big and open for snipers.

Well eh, on bronze difficulty in MP my infiltrator is capable of killing an atlas in 3shots with the Widow sniper.
You be the judge if a sniper is worthwhile.
Also you can shoot through terrain and other enemies now, its not uncommon to kill 2 people with 1 shot.

If there's still time-slowing effects from zooming in with a sniper rifle then yeah, it'll remain quite useful.

Why wouldn't it be?

They are good for Soldiers using Adrenaline Rush and Infiltrators using the scope.

That's been given to a mod that may not be available in MP.

Sniper rifles are always useful...for soldiers and infiltrators especially.

Sniper rifles now seem to have penetrating power which will come in handy with certain enemies and I doubt all levels will be tight quarters.

Ooh... A mod for SP eh? Bummer.

I don't mind twitch firing the sniper rifle, though I'm not too good with it especially at CQC (in MP) but I was hoping Infiltrator kept their time-slow abilities in SP... Alas.

L2 shoot moving targets and staying behind. Also use cloaking.

combine targeting boxes with AP rounds and you get limited wallhax, so yeah that seems pretty good

I can't wait to be re-acquainted with my trusty M97-Viper :o) That gun was a brute in ME2 in the hands of a soldier :o)

Don't know if you've played multiplayer yet but I'd say sniper rifles are pretty awesome. I'd even go as far as saying that the Widow is one of the most powerful weapons in the game atm, takes out a Guardian with a single shot.

I'm doing very well in Multiplayer with the Viper. Find plenty of use for it.

They did keep their slow down capabilities.

The reason there is no time dilation in MP (Adrenaline Rush, Sniper Concentration Mod, or the Infiltrator's class skill) is because it would play hell with the people NOT using time dilation.

However, in SP, AR slows time, Infiltrator still get scope dilation, and the dilation mod for snipers is still available.

Yeah, I never used sniper rifles much at all in ME1 and ME2, but come ME3 Demo? Man, I don't know if it's the exploding heads or something, but it feels so satisfying now than it ever did in the previous games. I'm usually at the top of the scoreboard when I only use my sniper rifle (hell, no scoping works nicely too in close range).
