I notice that there is the little x button that says promote but its dulled out, anyone know what it does?

So you can raise your N7 lvls

It's the only way you can complete the N7 and Mass Effect challenges. But be forewarned, it's a long road.

At level 20, you can promote a class. That class resets to level 1, but gives you +10 N7 Rating.

You also keep any things you may have unlocked for your characters in that class, besides the levels and the points you allocated.
