I'd like confirmation that FOV will be adjustable in the final release.

I read a post that suggestted that a fan mod might be plausible for FOV, although likely wouldnt work in multiplayer

I don't know what the default FOV is,but it should be 90 degrees.
That's the FOV of a human's eye in real life, and it would just feel more natural if the in-game FOV was the same as the one of our eye.
I hope there will be an ini file from which this can be changed permantly or a console command.(if we get to open the console, because in the demo we can't).

Derek says the OP needs a bigger monitor.....lol, that's not right.

I think this is all 'horses for courses' to be honest. Some people will love the game as it is (or as it will be?), some will hate and the rest won't be bothered either way! A small percentage of players will get motion sickness regardless of in-game FOV settings and I bet all of this "I hate this, I hate that" stuff occurred before ME2 was released and that went on to be regarded as a great game. As I said in a different thread earlier, ME3 is not ME2 and if BioWare had just put out a game that looked and played EXACTLY the same, essentially ME2 with new missions then people would just have complained about a lack of progress etc. etc. etc. And you all know that that's true... :o)

Actually humans have about 180 degree FOV with about 120 of that being binocular.  No game on a flat screen is ever going to emulate the human FOV because it's a complex interaction of forward, peripheral and visual cortex processing.  Even though our FOV is large we usually only focus on small areas of it and react instinctively to the peripheral.

To the OP, getter a bigger TV or sit closer to it and the effect should go away.

To match the game's FOV, why not try wearing an eye patch over one eye! Problem solved :o)

I'm slightly uncomfortable with the FOV at the moment, doesn't cause me any physical ailments but its a tad too close for my liking.

Man... I thought I was the only one getting physically sick from the small FOV's. Headaches mostly.

I hadn't had this problem with ME, though.

So, instead a confirmation or denial? we get a suggestion to have 3 monitors, just in case you fell sick in any of it?
That is just great. This is getting better and better!

I have motion sickness and it also made me slightly dizzy. Never had this problem with previous games.

I used to have this problem with some games too. For console I make sure I am far away enough from my TV - 10 to 12 feet. And for my PC I have a 17inch monitor on hand (not ideal but better then feeling like you're going to toss cookies mid match). Playing on 19inch and up gave me the feeling of motion sickness. That said I have been playing ME3 on 24inch monitor and haven't had any problems.

How did I miss this? Thanks for checking this out. I also play on a 24 inch monitor, roughly 2-3 feet away, and I still experience motion sickness. Not sure why, but I guess it's true that everyone is different.

Any chance we can get a confirmation that it will or will not be able to be edited via configs/in game menus? Honestly, I just want an answer so I can figure out an appropriate course of action. Whether that means canceling my preorder and getting the 360 version, or what. Thanks again.

I am not a fan of so narrow a view either. The negative effect on my situational awareness grates. At least give us an FOV togle for where it is now, medium distance, and long so that the player can determine where they are comfortable if you can't make it adjustable.

That's really not an option for a lot of people, I can't really increase the size of my laptop's screen, and monitors aren't cheap.

I don't have motion sickness, but hate narrow FOVs, they feel totally unnatural. It's like playing through binoculars.

This also bothered me a lot during the demo.

Is anyone else playing on a laptop? I'm using a 15.6" screen, I'd be curious to know if playing on a desktop/widescreen makes any difference.

I tried both on a 24" monitor at 1900x1200 which was about 30" away (pushed to the very end of my desk) and 10' away on a 55" plasma tv (PC version in both cases): same result. The second time I finished the demo I had to lie down and open a window (below 0 °C temp helped :P ). I never felt like that playing other games except when I tried to play Oblivion in 1st person several years ago (I ended up constantly switching between 1st and 3rd person...). Despite some flaws in the demo, I was really looking forward to play this game - at least to see the end of the trilogy - but I am not sure I will be able to.

Yeah, I agree whole heartedly, and I've been playing the demo on a 65 inch screen. It isn't exactly making me motion sick, but I can feel my brain working overtime to compensate for the lack of view, and it has been detracting from my enjoyment. Shepard has to flail around like an idiot to see enough of the battlefield to make decisions.

At first it just seemed like an annoyance, but now its starting to take its toll on me (and the final game isn't even out yet). I really hope they didn't pin their performance on the crap FOV, because I really want to see this fixed. As a Gameplay > Graphics person, I will totally take a downgrade in textures if I can actually see the battlefield. This is hurting gameplay in a big way.

"Owowow, I broke my leg!"
"Well, MY leg isn't broken, so I don't see the problem. It must all be in your mind. Try walking differently."

This is incredibly rude and dismissive of someone's reported issue.

It did sound incredibly dismissive and somewhat condescending, but I don't think that's the spirit in which the post was made.

At least, I hope not.

It feels exactly the samr to me as the first two games. Though perhaps Shepard does have more of a presence on screen, but it doesn't look like they made the character model bigger.

So, people that get motion sickness playing games need to see their environment beyond the screen, why? I just don't understand it, a game has not caused me to feel sick, ever. I don't even understand motion sickness in cars or planes, never been on a boat but I can understand that one.

This is definitely something that I would like implemented. I noticed I was getting a little nauseous whilst playing the demo. The FOV is VERY narrow and for most PC users like myself (or any console guys who play on a PC monitor) would say this is a must have.

Anybody who needs more convincing or Bioware devs themselves please watch this...
