I'd like confirmation that FOV will be adjustable in the final release.

So, people that get motion sickness playing games need to see their environment beyond the screen, why? I just don't understand it, a game has not caused me to feel sick, ever. I don't even understand motion sickness in cars or planes, never been on a boat but I can understand that one.

You dont understand, and yet, many peoples experience this. People are different, and that IS a good thing.

And according with the BioWare guy in this thread, these peoples should buy 2 more monitors.
do you understand that as the right answer? instead of just including the option, so people can change to the way is better for each one? As in MANY different games.

I got some motion sickness too the first time I played the demo. But I think that the problem lies with cinematics. The camera movement in non-combat scenes was very hectic in the first part of the demo. I also tried multiplayer and I was fine. I’m usually very sensitive with this stuff (I can’t play first person games).

As someone who gets horrible car sickness even on short drives I don't see what's to "get" it's caused by a disconnect between what you are seeing and what you are feeling. It can occur whether you are the one moving and you don't visually see it (general motion sickness), or when you see movement but don't feel it (video games, movies, and the like).

It's a serious problem and many people suffer from it, it's sad that Bioware seems to just be brushing off the issue.

"...just including the option..."

You realize that this simply might not be possible (at least on consoles) ?

Console players don't, in general, experience this problem to the degree that PC players do. Console players are farther away from the screen as they play while PC users are usually less than a foot away. This is a feature that should come standare on all PC games released.

For those that don't understand this, think of the monitor as a window. If you go closer to the window, you can see more off to the sides, doesn't work like that with a monitor, you need to adjust the FOV of the camera manually.

I can't play the game for very long before I get headaches, it would be really nice to have this. Not to mention the benefit of actually being able to see to the left when playing Krogan!

It wouldn't take them very long to implement this feature, it's usually nothing more than a couple of lines in the DirectX API, if not just a single function call.

Wow I am so glad someone else experienced this on the PC, it is the first time in my may hours of Mass Effect this has happened, or that it really has happened at all. I got really affected by it and had to stop, even tried to push the monitor back but it didn't help at all. It really threw me, know I see why!

I'd like a patch or option for FOV in the final game, too.

I don't recall motion sickness. If you were talking about GoW, I'd agree with you. As for ME3, I actually paid attention to see if there was any huge amount of swaying during sprint but I didn't notice.

Motion sickness is alien to me, but the FOV is just obscenely, frustratingly narrow. It is particularly rage-inducing in multiplayer.

For the people that don't understand what the Field of View issue is, here is an informative video about it.

In the end it looks like that other company is going to add FOV options in the PC version for their game pretty soon, so I hope that Bioware does the same for our beloved ME3.

I also feel dizzy after a while, it is uncomfortable but not super bad. I also urge for including a FOV Option. It shouldn't be a problem with the unreal engine and I am kind of sickened that since the demo released people have been complaining about is and there is no official response, whether there is some solution in planning or if BW just want to keep it the way it is. That is not a unreasonable request and will probably effect some people's decision to buy ME3.

Also, just because you don't experience this doesn't mean it isn't an issue. It depends on many things like size of the monitor, distance to the thing, and how well you brain adepts to this stuff. Just be happy you don't experience this.

I'm feeling so lucky right now, this motion sickness problem seems really bad and annoying. Playing with your health while playing a videogame.

I don't have this problem myself but you people are right, the FOV it's pretty narrow. The Krogan takes about 50% of the screen.

It is, and like the British guy says, if they do nothing to at least try to fix this, I'm seriously considering writing a complaint to some consumer advocacy because PC games being sold like this are indeed not fit for purpose.

Even playing as other species' it can become frustrating, having a Phantom next to you and not being able to see it is annoying. Our characters should have some peripheral vision.

I used to have this problem with some games too. For console I make sure I am far away enough from my TV - 10 to 12 feet. And for my PC I have a 17inch monitor on hand (not ideal but better then feeling like you're going to toss cookies mid match). Playing on 19inch and up gave me the feeling of motion sickness. That said I have been playing ME3 on 24inch monitor and haven't had any problems.

Any chance we can get a confirmation that it will or will not be able to be edited via configs/in game menus? Honestly, I just want an answer so I can figure out an appropriate course of action. Whether that means canceling my preorder and getting the 360 version, or what. Thanks again.

I doubt you're going to get any sort of "official" statement since they've barely confirmed anything period at this point and don't seem inclined to.

However, some of us have already been changing the FOV around in the demo and it works fine.  It takes some hacking of the Coalesced.bin file but it can and has been done.

The flip side is any changes made to that file affect both SP and MP, and because of that, odds are any file mods will possibly get detected and possibly get you banned (only a guess but you can't rule it out).  I'm not saying everyone would turn on infinite ammo and blow through MP in an hour, but it's a safe bet EA doesn't want that happening.

Whether it's worth the risk in the live game is up to the end user, but I'm not going to risk it on my live copy until I see if there's any sort of delayed response from EA on the whole issue (which I doubt there will be, likely people will just get banned without a word).

I am going to try to give Bioware the benefit of the doubt that they will recognize the need for this and take some kind of action to fix it on their own.    I usually don't tamper with any files that might get my account banned, but in this case it might be worth it, even if it means not playing multiplayer at all.

I would rather have  game that is playable without causing headaches.    ME3 will likely be my only product from Origin for the forseeable future and if they ban my account over wanting an acceptable FOV than I will have my answer as to whether they see anymore dollars from me in the future.

So keep working on that *.bin modifications, you might be my only hope if Bioware fails us on this point.

I solve terrible FOV by increasing the turn speed a few notches.

That doesn't help those of us who get nauseous from the low FOV.

Do you really need bioware to come in here and say "No"?

The answer is no. Very few console ports have the option and none of bioware's games have had it, so I really doubt they're going to magially change their stance now.

Your 24 inch is widescreen though, which will automatically increase FOV ... I'm on a 21 inch 4:3 screen, so I'm screwed as things are. FFS give a programmer a cookie and let him spend the 15 minutes necessary to fix it, it doesn't need any UI ... just let us set it in cfg.

I refused to pre-order DA2 because I saw which way the wind was blowing, but I really thought ME3 was going to be a AAA release ... I don't care if it's patched after launch, just as long as it gets patched. If you guys start producing half finished abandonware then I'll just have to wait for your games to hit the bargain bin before buying them in the future.
