I really liked it that you could continue playing ME2 after the credits had rolled but there was only so much to do (after having completed all the DLC).
So I thought why not make ME3 DLC called "Mercenary Mode" where Cdr Shepard has to wipe out the remnants of the reaper forces or free hostages from Batarian slavers or rescue people from a derelict ship and things like that!?
I really like to continue playing the game after the story and just roam the galaxy without having to worry about reapers and stuff! And I don't think Shep is just going to retire!
Actually I forgot to mention that these missions I'm talking about should reoccur like the radiant-quests in Skyrim (changing places, enemies, mission objectives etc.). So basically you can play in an infinite post-game-state.

a Multiplayer mission mode, a mix between the ME Universe and Quest from RPGs like White Knight Chronicles, even MMORPGs

I see what you mean.

Well, giving a DLC when the strongest ennemy is dead isn't really a complelling motive to build an post mission.
However, if they intent to make story DLC like we got in ME2 i'm sure they will give some small variant in the story if it is done before of after the last mission, it could be either "important for the main plot" or "cleaning", it would be for the player to choose.
I would also like some mission being possibley done post reapers.

Too bad destroying the relays ruins all possibility of space travel.

And results in every major inhabited star system being destroyed. Not much scope for after ending play there methinks, unless someone wants to play as the old duffer reading stories to his grandkid
