So now I have played the Demo 3 times (trying to get used to new mechanics)...I still get a cold shiver and goose bumbs as Shep watches that boy climb aboard the shuttle and then the shuttle being destroyed...I'm not prone to tears but I am wondering now if BW is going to slip a number of these kinds of moments into ME3...if so I think I will be playing with tear blurred vision...I think its a good thing adding these emotional elements, but yeh, I really felt that kid....Anybody else feel it?

From the little kid? No.

There is one very sad scene that I can recall from the leak, though.

The music is what really brought that scene to another level for me. I get goosebumps. The look on Shepard's face when the ship blows up is a noticeable improvement when conveying emotion.

I felt it. But I think half the reason is the music.

Although the flood of haters claim otherwise, I thought the intro was good. I shivered when the "UK headquarters" view came on. And when I saw that Reaper land... *shivers again*

Could be because I finished Mass Effect 2 the same day as I played the demo, but for me, the intro was pretty much perfect.

EDIT:^ofcourse it's the music?? Try watching any movie without it's music and see how you're affected emotionally.

Yes, the look on Sheps face added to the experience for me, his look mirrored my own feelings.....Sheps facial expressions are a vast improvement...anger, hurt, etc... I enjoyed the more natural reflections.

That music was amazing. I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one that thought it improved that scene by a lot.

And the SHepards facial reaction.Without those two things, the scene would have lost alot of it's "magic".

Yes, the music certainly adds...though for myself I think it was more the Shep and the kid locking eyes, then Shep watching the kids last moments play out and the expression on his face.

I agree the Demo is good, I'm enjoying it....though I really miss my favorite weapons, having some hell adjusting to these weapons...I exclusively use the Widow and Locust in ME2, so used to them, am hoping and praying I can access them in the game itself.

For me, a huge part of the emotional appeal is how much time I've put into my Shepard, and now this is THE final battle, and then seeing it all come down to this one kid, it does have a pretty big impact. And of course the music just about had me in tears. I'm so excited to get the soundtrack on the Collectors Edition.

I'm going to have to go against the grain and say that I didn't feel anything for that kid at all.

Yes, the music was beautiful and wrenching. Shepards facial animations are far improved over what they were, but it was the little kid itself that ruined it for me. Especially the way he was just shoehorned into the escape from the building. He was great right at the beginning, but as soon as he opened his mouth he was dead to me. They needed to have a much better voice actor for the child. He should have been a lot more scared than he was. Instead, he was just emotionally dead inside. I didn't care about the kid at all.

I am looking forward to seeing more of Shepard's expressions. Especially when my Thane-mancer Margurite is reunited with him, or when my Garrus-mancer is reunited with her turian. :)

I don't know, that may be a personal how we react to traumatic events ourselves connection or dis-connection, whichever the case maybe...I would have felt much less connected to him myself if he was falling apart, but I'm a person who goes into immediate shock (dead inside) and so appear quite calm and in control at the time....my fall apart and shakes don't start until the immediate danger is gone....So that maybe a personal experience thing...who knows.

The music is what sold that scene. The music was perfect.

I wasn't that emotionally invested in it. Meh, people die when aliens invade. There's worse things that could have happened to him. Like being impaled on a spike and seeing him transform into a husk and attack his family. Or something.

That reaper roar is what gives me the chills. Reminds me of War of the Worlds.

I'm not good at sensing sarcasm and it seems like it should be. So I'll just take it that way.

I died a little inside when the kid died.
Not 'cause of the kid.
But the writers of Bioware actually thought it would give the player an emotional impact.
Pathetic.

I hope whoever came up with the idea of the kid burns. Stupid cliche move.

I found the child scene contrite, the whole world is being attacked (and by extension millions of children are being killed), if you require seeing a child be killed to get emotionally involved then there's something lacking.
I found it something Bioware would have shoved in; How do we get new players emotionally involved.... that's it, lets show a kid being killed.
Hello, world coming to an end here!!!

(I hate forced emotion shoved onto me)

I think it was well implemented in the opening.
Actually I found it more touching the second time I played the demo with a Femshep (completely renegade in my mind), it somehow reminded me of Ripley and Newt from Aliens, only that this time newt didn't survived the event.
That scene works wonderfully to point out the most important thought shepard is probably having that day: "I failed".

Really? I found the whole scene with the kid to be very awkward, out of place, and cheesy. No emotional impact what-so-ever.

Well that's not completely true. It made me feel a little embarrassed watching it.

Um, no...  I think. I'm not really sure what you're referring to.
