Wow, I guess Bioware knows their audience after all.

This horrifies me.

Maybe it's the renegade in me but my first response to that scene was "Sorry kid. This is war, people die and unfortunately you are just one of the many before this is all over." then in a meta-mode I was thinking “Come on, cheap cliché and half baked old mould...It's not like we are still in the prime era of film where what we now consider as flat and overused was heart buster. If you want to do it, at least set it up properly. Sure the music managed to salvage it enough for me not to get angry when I cannot find how to employ a new way to roll my eyes....but damn it do I hate it when I see stereotypes and clichés. Granted, it's a demo and alot of things are probably cut back but...My opinion. Seems like some folks did get moved...Maybe I am just a renegade down to the bones.

Why?  The music was perfect, the setting was perfect.  It all fit together to make a nice scene.

The whole kid dying thing made me sad. Along with the music. However, Shepard's unbelievably bad facial animations did nothing to support this sad scene.

I still feel bad for the kid, it's one thing to imagine war with people dying and another to have it happen right in front of your face.

I love the music too, I imagine this kid scene will be nothing compared to others later on in the game.

I'm genuinely surprised anyone was effected by it.

I'm one of the softest people around and it had zero impact on me at all. What's so special about him as opposed to all the others fighting and dying, men women and children.

I could see it being powerful if you had encountered the kid throughout the game and had an actual attachment to him somehow, but instead it was a kid saying something that makes no sense to someone who clearly could have helped and then running off. He says Shepherd, the soldier (or whatever) can't help him, and then runs off to some other soldiers to get help? Eurgh.

I'd have been more affected by seeing a dog laying next to it's dead owner, whimpering and nuzzling him trying to bring him back to life that to what was given in the demo.

I hope I'll be able to collect the kids corpse, stuff him up and keep him as a doll for target practice.

Yeah, you are such a hardcore badass... Shooting dead kids. I agree, the scene was somewhat cheap if you look at it objectivly, but it is not something to make fun of. Maybe my perspective is a bit scewed, but shooting kids, stuffed or not, even only as a concept, is simply wrong in my book. M.

I really thought that extra facial expression when the shuttle blew up is what made it emotional for me... but in a different way. I wasn't sad, I just knew that I wanted to beat the living hell out of a Reaper.

Yea, for me it was the lines he spoke that killed it for me.  The music for both scenes was nice, but that's about all I can say about the scenes.

It's brilliant (and sad)

I do get quite emotional seeing it, but it is largly to do with the music. ME3's music is above and beyond what I have expected. I'm actually looking forward to playing the game JUST to hear the music!

Edit: this is all slightly off topic, sorry!!

I wasnt really impressed coz killing a character introduced 5 minutes ago to instigate emotional reaction is nothing but a cliche.

And Shepard looked like Vin Diesel to me.

I thought the opening of the demo had zero impact. I expected to be wowed when the Reapers showed up. It turned out to be lame. They were just shooting buildings in the background. At one point Anderson comments on how people are dying and it's like "where?" I saw two people the whole time plus the kid, no one else, the city was empty. Where was all the screaming in the background? Plus, I knew that kid for what, 2 seconds, so big deal. There was no impact for me during the opening at all. Nothing that made me care or want to come back to save Earth.

Only part that came close was when the Normandy was flying through the atmosphere and I thought "wow, that is a lot of Reapers."

Yeah, okay... now that would have me blubbering alright. Especially if you see one of those batarian husks moving towards the dog and your standing on the Normandy knowing you can't stop it.

I personally felt moved. Even if the kid was only in it for a few minutes I felt it's what he symbolized that held the impact. Innocents are dying and more will die. No matter how strong Shepard is not everyone will be saved. Maybe it is cliche but hard to show an original death for an end of the world scenario. Men, women, children, and animals have all been shown dying in these situations in films and such. But that's just my thought on it. Oh and the music is fantastic!

It felt too forced to me, like they were trying too hard to garner my sympathy.

The scene needs more subtlety because right now it feels like a bad commercial that want me to donate money.

Oh, did anyone consider the possibility that Shepard has been looking at this kid every day? You know, he's out, playing, and Shepard must stay in... I mean, he has been on Earth for a while at that point, maybe confined to SA HQ? Getting fat and reading novels he had bought at the Citadel? Or is just my imaginationg going wild again Image IPB... M.

Music definitely made everything better

I got slight shivers from the kid scene, but that part still felt half-assed for me

So now I have played the Demo 3 times (trying to get used to new mechanics)...I still get a cold shiver and goose bumbs as Shep watches that boy climb aboard the shuttle and then the shuttle being destroyed...I'm not prone to tears but I am wondering now if BW is going to slip a number of these kinds of moments into ME3...if so I think I will be playing with tear blurred vision...I think its a good thing adding these emotional elements, but yeh, I really felt that kid....Anybody else feel it?

have not played the Demo yet but from what  I seen with Mansell  piano piece its very  impactful.    The music said with a untone of hope because Mansell always does a subtely Crescendo , so it get the yeah this moment is tragic but   Shepard is coming back and this far from over.

People don't like it, because they are completely overjudging everything.
I can picture some here sitting in front of their monitor like "ewww that was a lame one-liner!" "Is that really a bugged shadow on his nose?" "Did Wrex really say that? Totally unfitting!" "Awww that was so predictable to happen!".
Some just can't simply enjoy a game and shut up about everyting that's just a little off.

Felt a tinge of sadness but nothing major, I think people are making too much of a big deal about this.

The thing is though that when there are as many small things that feel "off" in the game it takes you out of the moment.

Your "shut up and eat" mindset would be valid if we got the game for free, but if I have to buy it we have to take things like this into consideration.

I at least won't blindly buy this without seeing if it's actually good.

I was just talking about the judgement of the demo. It seems like some people are so picky searching for stuff that is off, that they don't even try to enjoy it. They are just too busy searching for mistakes they can complain about.
