So who is your target market? The people that grew up with your rich, deep RPGs, or the xbox fps gamers who don't give a rat's ass about story, character development and character progression? Who is it Bioware?

Games I like are for smart, sophisticated, literate adults and games I don't like are for impatient, brain-dead, boorish children. Any difference in your opinion only reflects on your intelligence and places you firmly in the latter category.

Am I doing it right?

Look, I realize I'm calling out just one part of a larger post. But this is ridiculous. Story, character progression, character development, world-building, writing quality—all these things are independent from whatever genre of game you're making. You can make an FPS, TPS, platformer, or even a puzzle game with all those things if you really wanted to. I would argue that games like Bioshock, Half-Life, Deus Ex, GTA IV, Psychonauts, The Longest Journey, and Portal have plenty of the things you say other gamers "don't care about," and they are, respectively, three FPS's, a TPS/driving game, a platformer, an adventure game, and a puzzle game. They're also celebrated by critics and gamers alike as some of the best examples of their genres precisely because of those elements you say the FPS crowd "doesn't care about."

So, please, don't generalize.

I'm surprised at how quickly this place is devolving. Reminds me of the DA2 forums about a year ago. Should be really fun in about three weeks.

Exactly. It's the only reason I'm still here. Just for the damn pre-game crap like this and then the SHOW on march 6th. Might be more entertaining than the damn game!

Don't hold your breath. Unlike Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 3 seems to have gotten its "action" element right (that's what saved ME2 from being an early DA2). And RPG fans already know that this game is not a serious RPG, and has never really pretended to be, unlike Dragon Age. So there won't be any "misaligned expectations" as Ray put it, nor forum madness.

DragonRageGT wrote...Plus the multiplayer promises to be one of the best things this year. I can't get enough of it with the Demo. Gameplay is awesome. Team play even better, when you have a good team!

If the narrative falls vicitim because of it, then it's not worth not. The story was BW bread and butter, and without it it does not stand above other games with its gameplay. There are so many other games with better MP, and for BW to try that out with the last chapter of a narrative driven game is a risky move.

I agree in the most part except for the run and gun part. It's a demo, so of course it's not going to be difficult. From what I've played in the multiplayer, when the enemies start to get stronger, you will definitely need to use your powers, especially in the higher difficulties.

Agree with OP to some extent. Terrible marketing so far, but I refuse to make up my mind about a game I haven't played yet.

Good post.  And has everyone so quickly forgotten that Mass Effect is a 360 franchise that was ported to the PC?  Heck, this game was the reason I bought a 360 in the first place.

I find it kind of funny alot of the Bioware Defense leagues idea of being an old Faithful Fan is coming in at KOTOR or Jade Empire. What does that make people who have played Bioware games since pre Baldurs Gate.. Ancient Fans?

Okay, but why should that matter?

No, seriously. Unless this is about Bioware looking to Baldur's Gate for inspiration in future games (something I personally hope doesn't happen), having played Baldur's Gate 1 back '96 doesn't mean all that much.
