I ended up in a silver map the first quick match @ lvl 1. I was underpowered then.

Like the earlier guy said, people aren't insisting on joining gold at low levels. They are just doing a quick match without filtering the challenge level. I didn't know I could do that till a few games in.

OP is right. It's illogical.

As an analogy, going into Gold less than level 10 is like going to the Suicide Mission with no loyalties.

Terrible example I know, but it shows that you'll fail regardless of your skill, mainly because you aren't ready.

A good point that is miss-represented by thread title and original post.

Gold murders newbies because of the damage ramp up and no defenses on behalf of the new character.

Gold more seems to be for endgame runs with fully leveled characters than for actual leveling. Bronze helps people get a start on their characters (or for good ole fashioned fun.) and Silver is that sort of middle rung where the majority of the game will be played until everyone has level 20 characters.

The worst is when lvl 1s don't hit the ready button D:

I wanna play with you, bro, but you gotta hit the ready!

I'm decent on bronze but got absolutely hammered on silver when I tried it out. I have a really high N7 level but am actually quite terrible at MP. How good should I bet at bronze to move on to silver? Solo'ing it?

I can win at bronze with one other person who is perhaps half as good as I am (that sounds pretty big headed :pinched:), and I've completed silver with a team of four and then one of them dropped out half way through so 3 for the rest.

I'd say if you want the easiest time doing silver you should all have headsets, and for gold I'd say headsets are necessary - in a team of 4 where we used our best characters with as much synergy with each other as possible we only got to wave 6 as we got swarmed by atlases and phantoms.

Sounds like my two friends and I should be starting at silver and work our way up - nothing like a good Co-op challenge to go "oooooh **** **** ****!" on VT about :)

A sub-10 class level means that they're going to be relatively squishy and have relatively few talent points.

It isn't about skill. It's about pure numbers.  Bronze is pretty nakedly more suited to those clases.

Having accidentally gotten put into a gold match when I was at level 2, this is VERY true.  It's not being mean, it's about being bluntly honest.

If you're < level 10, you WILL NOT SURVIVE gold.  Even if you are level 10, you can survive, but you have to play it just-so and with a crack team.

If you thinking getting constantly pummeled by six guys at once is fun then might I suggest employment in the fetish industry?

If you think you are up to the challenge of going gold with a level 1, I think you should do that. There's no rules saying you can't, but is a smart move to play 2 or 3 bronzes with a new character. Every match last for 20 minutes, so it's not a big deal play it to up the level before going silver or gold.

There the rule that people kick you.

I don't think you get it. This isnt about skill so much as it is unlocks. At anything less than level 10 you dont have the unlocks or tallent points to be useful much less survive.

Unlocks help.

Skill and teamwork helps more.

While its a really bad idea to try gold at low lvl. It'd be cool to see a video of people running a gold map.

I'm not gonna try it but I'll watch someone else try.

It's a freaking demo for crying out loud. This post would have made more sense if the Game was actually out.

I just got in. I have a level 1 Engineer.
After reading this thread I am tempted to queue up for gold.

Just made new adept. Going Gold for this reason.

The furthest I've gotten is Wave 10 with a team of two others. We got pinned down in a hall by three (?) atlas mechs (two from one side, one from the other), two or three phantoms, and a troop of guardians.

O god, the horror.

You could be the greatest player in the world and quite prepared to work well with your squad mates and never the less going into a gold match at lvl1 with no unlocks, next to no talent points and no mods you will be dead weight.

To conciously choose to do so shows no consideration for the people you will be playing with and implies an intention to ruin the fun for others.

good job kids :/

Reminds me of how I kicked the crap out of 15-20 lvl talimancers with my 4 lvl infiltrator lol.

I almost never miss with my SR. I love headshots in this game. Almost everytime I get a golden 20 headshots medal at the end of a game.

@ jerkface. What lvl were you guys?

Wave 10 at lvl 1 would be very impressive.

Wave 10 at level one? Loool. Not a chance. IIRC, I started as a level 11 vanguard, and the two others were level 12 and 14, engineer and adept, respectively.
