Oh man, I struggled with #5. (And it looks like great minds think alike coldi!)
It feels wrong not to mention Wrex, Samara, Jack, Joker, Grunt, Aria, Zaeed, Tali, and Javik when thinking about my favorites....but that's quite a few, lol. There are so many really fantastic characters.

Since he's the player character, and I try to make the decisions based on what I would do in the situation, I'm not including Shepard in the list.  So this is my top 5, outside of Shep.

1.  Garrus:  The ultimate bro.  Garrus has led an interesting life, and I think he got into the most interesting things post- ME1.  Sure Wrex and Tali did important things, but Garrus's was definitely more interesting.  Plus "Archangel" just sounded badass.  He always had Shepard's back no matter what, and you can't ask for a better teammate and friend than that.  He didn't hesitate to walk straight into hell with Shepard three times, he didn't blink when he found out Shepard was working with Cerberus, and he didn't back down to come to Earth to help in the final battle against the Reapers.

2.  Javik:  While I didn't really like the character too much, there is no denying that he was damn fascinating.  We've all heard about the Protheans all the way back at the beginning of ME1 and to actually meet one of them and learn what the Protean culture was really like was just... incredible.  I really enjoyed talking to him.

3.  Saren:  I loved this enemy.  His motivations seemed so wretched and then you find out he's indoctrinated.  When he begins talking and is truly convinced that working with the Reapers is the only way to save everyone and that he's doing the right thing I couldn't help but feel sorry for him.  I wanted to help him, and in the end, despite everything he did, I really wished that he would have broken the indoctrination and worked with Shepard.  Alas, in my game he commited suicide to break the hold of the Reapers, and that was just as good a way for his story to end in my opinion.  I've just always been fascinated by him.

4.  Legion:  He alone completely changed my opinion of an entire race.  In ME1, I just considered the Geth as a evil robot Sci-Fi villain.  Then with the introduction of Legion, I saw them as an actual race of beings.  He made me want to fight to save the Geth and give them their place in the galaxy as another worthy race.  I did my best to bring up my Paragon/Reputation to save everyone but mainly for the Geth's sake, in both ME2 and ME3.

5.  Thane:  Quite a mystery, since I don't really know what specifically it is I like about him other than he's a badass, but I just really enjoyed having him on my team.  I liked the way his story ended in ME3, to be honest with you all.  He went out fighting and showed Kai Leng that it doesn't pay to be a Raiden cosplayer.

5. Shepard as my playtroughs went. Of course, there are a LOT of awesome characters in the 3 games so the top 5 isn't really do justice. LI was Liara but mostly becouse Femshep had very bland options Also, she was almost my least favorite asari in the game, but she really grown out as the story went forward.
