I looked for a thread about this and could not find one. My main question has to do with the lovable combat drone. Has anyone tried the top level powers? The rocket sound nice, but most of the time my drone spawns near the enemy and uses the shock attack. It makes me think the jumping shock attack is the better choice. What do you guys think?

Also, what builds in general do you like with your engineer?

I'm interesting to level up the Sentry turret with Cryo ammo. That with the extra damage from incinerate will be carnage.
I also like the banners you have on your profile there haha! I would love to be able to name my drone Wilson ^_^

I unlocked the Quarian engineer yesterday. Incinerate and Cyro blast is quite powerful combination, with a shotgun or pistol you can use those to take out weaker troops very quickly. The deployable turret seems kinda buggy in the demo, placement doesn't always work and sometimes it simply doesn't even fire at enemies.

Oh, rocket drone is very useful.

It also shocks too as well.

So it's an extra gun.

And why shouldn't drones have names? They are the best damn Squad mates in the game! Even when both my squad mates had been fragged in insanity, Jack was always there for me! I suppose I can try the rockets, though the crowd control ability of being able to shock stun three people at once is soooooo tempting :P

I have been upgrading the attack vs. the shielding on the drone.

Rocket drones have some serious problems.

They fire the incinerate power, so not like actual missiles, and they now won't engage an enemy if there is any risk that it will be caught in its own splash damage.

So it really depends on personal preference, do you use your drone to just roam free, which would suit rockets, or do you use it as a distraction, which chain lightning would be the better option.

I have a level 20 human engineer. I chose the chain lightning and it locks the field up nicely.

Drone is awesome for getting Nemesis' outta cover. I only have like, 2 points in it though... maxed out Incinerate and Overload first.

Still waiting on my Quarian though...

oh, I am defiantly the type to use him for flushing people out of cover and into my gun sights, or as a distraction. I love when he spawns behind the guys with shields. They turn to face him and get a fire ball in the butt for their trouble :P

He even works well for distracting the enemy enough for you to revive a comrade. It looks more and more like the triple shock is the right choice for me.

Haven't experimented with the drone much, the rockets do sound good, but I've been wrecking face with a pretty basic incinerate/overload/sniper build on my humangineer. Taking only the rifle means I can pretty much spam tech attacks. The stun from overload and the panic from incinerate set up headshots, in addition to cutting defenses. I forget the name of the rifle I'm using...it's a high capacity fast reloader. I leave the serious BOOM HEADSHOTs with the slow, super-penetrating rifles to infiltrators. I keep my drone out constantly to harass and flush out the enemy.

Working for me so far.

I've been using a rocket drone and have found it pretty effective, though I do tend to just let my drone roam and engage. I think the thing I like about the rocket attack is that instead of just knocking enemies out of cover and stunning them, the rocket gives the drone the ability to kill pretty quickly. My average number of kills per battle definitely increased quite a bit with the rocket drone. And when I need it to get someone out of cover, it's still effective for that too.

I mainly use my drone as a distraction, taking out guardians because there to busy looking at a floaty shocking orb of possible DEATH is something I dont pass up on.

Drone looks meh. I'm focussing on overload for Phantoms/Atlases/Centurions etc and Incinerate for general damage.

What weapons are people using. I'm tempted to stick to my Phalanx for the 200% bonus.

Get the short-range pulse attack, and the chain lightning as the final evolution. Stun-locking a group of 3 is friggin sweet. Plus I have the explosive evolution as well so Atlases (Atlai?) and Phantoms like to attempt to kill themselves.

Human Engineers are NASTY. Roll around with a Tempest/Phalanx, Incinerate, Overload, Combat Drone, AND the Flaming Pimp Slap of DOOOOOOM?? Dirty.

I've got a human Engineer and I'm maxing out the drone in the electro-static configuration. I'm not sure how useful rockets are for the way I use my drone "Astro" to flush out enemies. I'm loving multi-player. I was up til 3:00am playing it. I had the pleasure of working with a squad of Engineers and it was awesome. Drones and incineration everywhere. I especially like using Overload on the Nemesis and shocking the hell out of them.

I've been wondering what others have found more useful on incinerate, more range or damage?

I've been playing with my quarian engineer and I definitely favor damage over everything else. On bronze challenges I can fire incinerate on Cerberus assault troopers and they die from the damage over time alone. It's a great fire and forget power to use, and I ranked quite a few kills this way. Combine that with a cryo blast (yours or someone else's) and it's a very good combination for more powerful enemies like Nemesi and Phantoms.

I originally went with full damage, but I think i'll be going with more splash radius for the full release.

I roll human Engy. Overload is sorely needed, and nobody uses it because there's Vanguard and Infiltrator. :'(

That said, maxed overload with the chaining and damage boosts can annihilate entire squads even on silver. And it has the added bonus of popping Phantoms' barriers in a single hit.

My first new character was a Quarian Engineer, but I was kinda disappointed with the Sentry Turret.. Maybe I wasn't using it right, but it didn't seem to be doing a lot of damage and sometimes it would'nt fire on enemies right next to it! Also the targetting was a bit tricky! (but I guess you learn how to aim it after a couple of games..)

I found it to be a very useful tool. Depending on how you upgrade it, you can have it do all sorts of things. I normally spam the heck out of it, throwing it to the middle of enemies to distract them and even placing it in the middle of open areas pre-emptively, just in case they come from there. But it can also serve as a good cover popper: throw it behind an enemy hiding in cover and they'll get up to deal with it, giving you the opportunity to line up a good shot.

It's also great to deal with guardians. I upgraded it to a flamethrower, so when they come close I throw the turret behind them and push them towards it with either cryo blast or incinerate. Or, if they turn towards it, just attack as usual. :) They die very quickly with that setup.

Thought I have to agree, the placement sometimes is a little off, especially if it bounces. And I've had my share of times where I think it just went under the ground, never to be seen again. If you're like me and have lightning fast cooldowns, it shouldn't be a problem. Just place it again 2 seconds later. :D

i have only played silver so far.

The more i play the Engineer the more im convinced that Overload is the (only) skill he needs and should use. The thing is all the pain-in-the-@ss enemies like these invisible assassins, robots and freaking turrets all have heavy shielding, which is a pain to take off. And they kill fast. Overload also stuns, which is often the difference between life and death, i simply dont have the time to cast Incinerate, because while i could kill him, he will hurt me too, and his buddy finish me off. Not nice. On the other hand, permastunned enemies are dead stuff. Also works if team buddy is ganged up by mobs. He will like the overload.

IMO Overload should definitely be maxed out. Taking two bars of shield of a Atlas or taking out the shields of an engineer AND his sentry? Priceless.

I did a Drone build where I always went for Health/Damage over Explosion/Short-Range Pulse and in the end I chose the long-range rocket.

I sometimes use it to turn around Guardians, but mostly I just spawn it behind enemy lines as an expendable 5th squadmate and let it do it's thing. Has high survivability, does a lot of damage and often finishes of weak enemies. Love it.
