Would anyone be willing to share their exact builds? Point by Point?
I've got to a point where the trees start to branch out, and I reckon I keep making terrible mistakes (I chose Detonate over the Damage and Shields at Lv4)
looking forward to an ability to retrain powers allowing us to experiment more!

I think I'll only go up to rank 5 combat drone, that lets me get exploding goodness and AoE shock, chain lightning and rockets look fun, but I think I'll skip out on them so I can max fitness, passive and overload.

Weapon is avenger assault rifle (199% recharge, close enough)
Overload max (both chain ones + neural shock upgrades)
Incinerate 3(I wish I'd taken less points to put more in drone)
Fitness max(all shield upgrades)
Passive max(both power damage upgrades and then for final +10% weapon damage)
Drone 2(I'll have 6 more points I think(I'm level 18), so I can get drone 3 and just miss drone 4 which sucks)

Enter the Hornet and its obscene DPS up close. The weapon takes some serious getting used to due to the recoil, but you can drop anything with a properly aimed quick series of bursts. Just aim it low as though it were an AK in CS and things will work out fine.

Want to know why this game is cool? Because my build is nothing like that and I bet we're both still pretty effective engineers, just doing things differently.

Both Incinerate and Overload are at Rank 2.
Training is at level 4 using the Damage and Capacity Bonus.
Fitness is at Rank 3
Right now he's only carrying the Mattock.
The plan right now is to keep pumping up Fitness and Training before maxing out Overload, and finally Incinerate
The Rocket Drone is a beast on Bronze/Silver Matches; I will probably build an explosive rocket drone if I ever get access to the female engineer.

Scoped Heavy Pistol only.
Rank 3 Combat Drone solely for Guardians.
Rank 6 Incinerate for Damage and Recharge for Armor/Health.
Rank 6 Overload for Damage and Recharge for Shields/Barriers.
Rank 5 Alliance Training for Power Damage.
Rank 6 Fitness for Shields and Health.

Turned out my L2 and R2 didn't get mapped properly when I joined. Heh
I love this class now. Up to Level 17 and hoping to max Cryo to go with max Incinerate

Thoughts on engineer builds on gold anyone?
Highly recommend investing deep into Fitness. Phantoms can and will nearly one-shot you from range if they catch you out of cover. The guy above who listed his "Atlas busting" build is much like what I will do differently come retail.
I didn't max fitness so my survivability on gold is lower than it could be, which means I have to play extremely conservatively.

If you just want to play bronze and silver, go ahead and build a glass cannon engineer for max damage and whatever leftover points to health and shields.

I'd say get alliance training to tier 5 for the boost to power damage.Bourne Endeavor wrote...
In terms of point spread. What is best for the human engineer? I was thinking of abandoning either Alliance Training or Fitness but both have their uses.
Incinerate doesn't need to be top level either, tier 4 or 5 can be enough. Though the extra damage to armor is of use against turrets or ATLAS.
Fitness I'd recommend atleast tier 2 and perhaps tier 4.
All in all your powers are the bread and butter of this class and for me they take priority.

Anyone else stick a shotgun on their Engineer? Phantoms don't even know what's happened until their faces are paste.
My quarian engineer does that, along with burning stuff. Shotgunning people that are on fire is fun.

I've come to the same conclusion for my build. It should be noted that with high level weapons (X versions) and increased weight capacity you can actually run a Heavy Pistol and SMG with no penalty. The SMG is great for locating a cloaked Phantom so you can nail it with Incinerate.
I really wanted to like the Drone but it tends to wander off too often and having to recast it instead of using Overload is a waste. I'm tempted ot see how the chain stun ability would work but it would have to be utterly fantastic to warrant spending 15 additional points into the skill.

Shotguns are great for an asari or an infiltrator, because they can get to safety easily, but what can an engineer do, where guardians and phantoms arent impressed by overload?clopin wrote...

Tempest X (scope V and clip V) \\ Phalanx X (scope V and barrel V)
Tactics:
1) Assault meat - Incinerate or headshot. Drone into flanking passage to give you a few seconds if they flank you. Stun Overload in case a group is approaching.
2) Centurion - Overload, 2 x headshots.
3) Nemesis - Overload, headshot.
4) Guardian - headshot. Group of guardians - drone to distract, Incinerate.
5) Combat Engineer - Overload, 2 x headshots. Turret - Overload, Overload, Incinerate.
6) Atlas - Spam Overload + Tempest, when reaches armor - spam Incinerate + Phalanx.
On armor - hit cockpit or engine exit.
7) Phantom - Overload, Overload, Tempest spray'n'pray. They tend to catch Incinerate shots, so I prefer using Overload even on health.
n x Phantoms - pray. Backpedal, roll, Drone to distract, Overload from cover.
Squad mate down - drone on his location to distract, Overload to stop troopers from execution.
Squad mate down on time objective - drone on his location, wish you an honorable death.
Squad mate down when hacking - drone, sprint for revival.
Squad mate down on head hunt objective - drone on his location, wish you an honorable death.
Extraction - get into building on the right, or stay on bridge. Drone to the right both locations for distraction.
Best squad mates: krogan soldiers \\ sniper infiltrators - soften shield for them.
