TLDR? Just skip the paragraphs and see the questions...

I understand that the Mass Effect series is all about the single player portion of the game. Obviously being a RPG that's to be expected, since most RPG's today sadly don't consider multiplayer functionality in the form of multiple players playing through the same content or storyline. The ones that do try it usually suck (ala Two Worlds). Anyways before I get off topic...

I just wanted to share how happy I was to hear that Bioware included a form of multiplayer in Mass Effect 3. Since I enjoy my games most when I'm playing with friends I tend to only play games with multiplayer nowadays. It's not that I don't like single player games because I do still play them from time to time but it's just I feel that playing games with others is more fun. When you can share the moments with others and laugh it's just that much more fun rather than just playing it by yourself in single player.

I was even more happy when I got to play and see how well the multiplayer was done in Mass Effect 3. It plays great and it's very fun and addictive. I've been having a blast on the demo. It reminds me a lot of Horde Mode from the Gears of War games and I'm sure there are other comparisons that can be made to other games but what I wanted to say was how much better it is than any similar game mode I may have played on other games. I think the powers and upgrade trees for your powers makes it that much better. Gives it that RPG element that I really enjoy, customizing a character and unlocking abilities. The Store also is very good way of doing weapons and unlocks for weapons because I think it gives it that addictive nature of - "Okay just one more game so I can get  to 20,000 credits and buy another Veteran Pack and see if I get a rare character or weapon."

All that being said... Before I decide to purchase the game or not (and this would be the first time buying a Mass Effect game) I want to make sure that Bioware plans to support this side of the game. I'm not interested in the single player as much, although I might play it when my friends are not online. I have to know though if Bioware is taking this multiplayer mode as a serious part of the game and will keep it updated with content so that it doesn't get boring and stale because to be honest I can see myself playing it so much at launch that I'll be bored with the launch day content within a month. When all the launch day content feels boring and has been completed that when I fear I'll quit playing the game.

I'm just trying to be sure they didn't come out with this mode as a last second selling point and so that it isn't just tacked onto the single player to sell more copies because I do want to buy this game but FOR THE CO-OP MODE ALONE, not for the single player at all mainly.

However if it's not going to be supported post launch with new content that will keep it fresh than I'de be better off renting the game instead. And so...

I have some questions about the new Cooperative Multiplayer Mode in Mass Effect 3.

  • In the full game will all the character's leveling be capped at level 20? And if so, will they raise this cap in the future with DLC? That or will the mode include some form of incentive (ala prestige) to keep leveling and improving your character?
  • In the full game will there be more variety in the Packs you can purchase from the Store? In the demo there is only the Recruit and Veteran, will there be higher grade packs that while more expensive gives off a better chance for rarer loot? Maybe a Legendary Pack that includes 1 guaranteed rare?
  • In the full game will there be different enemy types other than the Cerberus troops and if so how many different types?
  • In the full game will there be more maps? How many? Will some of these maps be larger than the two we were able to play in the demo? Will some maps be longer than eleven waves of enemies?
  • Will Bioware support this mode with DLC in the form of new Maps, New Enemy Types, New Weapons or Weapon Mods, and/or New Characters with New different powers?
Thanks.:alien:

  • 2. Yes.
  • 3. At least three I think.
  • 4. On the first part: Definitely, everything else would be ridiculous. Rest: Dunno.
  • 5. Look at what they did and do before the game is even out. You can bet there will be tons of DLC around. They're even thinking about a Season Pass afaik.

Hmmm them considering a Season Pass sounds like a good omen for DLC and a lot of continuous content.

Not sure what you think would be ridiculous though? The larger sized map(s) or the more waves? I just like variety and think one map that larger wouldn't be the worst thing. Especially if it was just 1 out of say the 10 maps they ship with. As for how many waves? I think it would be fun to have more than 11 waves. Part of the challenge in Gears of War Horde mode was going from 1 to 50 and each boss every 10 lvls or so... (Forgive me if that don't make sense as I haven't played that game in awhile) Anyways the higher you got the harder it got. I think this game mode is sorta missing out on that a bit. Not that it isn't tough now, because it is, but it could last longer than 11 waves so you don't feel like your doing the same thing over and over again. That's what ultimately makes games boring is the repetitiveness feel.

Sorry, maybe phrased it a little confusing. I meant it would be ridiculous if there were only two maps around in the full game.
However, it might be necessary to unlock these maps via playing the single-player campaign. Not sure about that, though.

If that's true I guess it would give me more incentive to play the single player but I was sorta hoping I could focus on playing a lot of the co-op and get some stuff via the new Galaxy at War feature to help me out in single player before going into it. Plus idk I feel like I won't know what's going on not having played the first two games.

On topic: There's not much info out there about the co-op mode is there? Will Bioware be sharing more info before launch? I'de like to know more details for sure...

The previous answers have pretty much said everything I could and then some.

But as far as #4 goes, I can't fire up the demo to check, but if I remember correctly in one of the screens there's a map of the galaxy in red, with something along the lines of 6 or 7 different sectors? I think it's on the quick match screen where you select map, enemy, difficult, etc.

Well I guess they will be supporting it at least...

"We are going to be supporting Mass Effect 3 for quite some time," executive producer Casey Hudson said, "because I think people are going to have a lot of fun with multiplayer, and we'll be supporting that with new content as we go forward."

Now I just wonder how much content is going to be out there at launch day. If it's under 5 maps and only 20 lvls, which I've already reached in one weeks time on the demo, then it might not be worth a purchase for multiplayer alone.

I know ME3′s
multiplayer is not the main reason people are anticipating it but for me it is. If they’re going to be supporting it so that it doesn't get stale and boring, right now I feel not a lot of content is there after playing the demo, then I might decide to buy.

1. There is prestige currently in the demo game files.

2. Yes there are more packs.

3. There are more types, identifyers for others are specified in game files.

4. Yes there are more maps.

5. EA is backing this. There will be more DLC then you know what to do with.

These "game files" your talking about... Is that a PC thing?

Can you maybe copy paste the names of them so we know... Cuz I play on console (xbox360) and there are no game files that you can look at.
