OK this is my only gripe about this game so I don't want this topic to come across the wrong way as people trying to say if I don't like it don't play type of usual comments because I like a good game, and I understand a certain amount of dialog is needed for a story, but this game has entirely way too much dialog in it.
It is highly annoying to sit through 5 min of un-needed and long winded dialog only to start playing again, play for about 1-3 min, then have a cinematic trigger again and then the procedure repeats.
Every time I am playing this game I am constantly dozing off due to the massive amounts of long winded dialog Which is most of the time boring and completely un-needed. On top of that it also has entierly way too many dialog choices. With the exception of some parts of this game, no dialog in a game should ever last longer than 1 minute max for an entire conversation, and it is also uncalled for to have 4-8 dialog choices per selcted dialog choice you make.
I have played games that have a good amount of dialog in them, and I have sat through and read it all, (Such as Risen) but the gabbing was still kept down to a minimal, I didn't need an hour of useless dialog to tell me one thing in the end.
So I fail to see how Dragon Age Origins is so special that it needs huge amounts of un-needed dialog that goes on for 5 min just to tell me one thing, when all it takes is 1 minute max.
Sorry I'm not trying to knock anyone's play expeirence, but I surely cannot be the only one who has this issue.
For the record I do press ESC to skip most of this dialog.
Does anyone else constantly doze off while playing this game

Why are you even playing a story driven RPG game in the first place?
It doesn't sound like it's a type of game you enjoy.

"Dozing off" can be a sign of epilepsy, please heed the epilepsy warning and consult a physician.

Well, you're pressing Escape, so that's a start. If you try to get into a rythm of alternating Esc and '1' I imagine you can get through the conversations quite a bit quicker. I don't know what else to suggest really. Just make sure you keep taking your medication.

BioWare makes cinemetic games, so you have to expect lots of movie and dialogue when you play a BioWare game. I enjoy them for what they are. When I want more gameplay than movie, I don't play a BioWare game. I agree with you that some of the NPCs are long-winded encylopedias, but again, that's BioWare's style.

Uh, yeah. Roleplaying games are definitely not for you. A good fps with rpg elements sounds like it would be more to your liking.

I didn't mind.....my first playthrough
Gets more annoying on other playthroughs though, especialy since almost all dialogue is the same for every origin. Just like Bioware promised us!

If it's not against the rules I would like to recommend Torchlight it's a Diablo like game and a lot of fun where you don't have to think much - I like both kinds.

For myself, I doze off constantly when playing. Then again that may have something to do with the fact that I was probably playing for several hours past a decent hour to go to bed. So I suppose I'm not the best person to support you argument.

I'm doing my third playthrough with a few different characters, not sure which will finish first and I notice I skip alot more dialog this time. The first two times I didn't skip much, but this time I have subtitles on and I just read em and move on. The voice acting is excellent and lends much to the game to enrich the experience, but by playthrough 3 I have heard most of it. Anything new I sit and listen to though.

I have to agree with the others, you bought the wrong game. The cinematic style, character interaction and dialogue choices are a hallmark of the story driven RPG Bioware strives to create.

This is a pretty much the same as the "wall of text" complaint.
I'm sorry, but this isn't game for you. As it has been said, we who buy BioWare games enjoy wall of texts and cinematic dialogs. (They have been smaller now actually since the codex).
No ill intended in this, but I'm sorry you didn't get your money's worth when you bought this game. At least you've learned for the future that BioWare's rpgs are not for you.
Personly I didn't doze off a single time, even when I was playing too wee hours.

The only time I find myself dozing off during cutscenes is when its 2 in the morning cuz I can't put the damn controller down...
Is Bioware going to be opening up DA:O Support meetings?

I've spent the past week getting about 2-3 hours of sleep per day (usually around 11am-2pm) and been living completely nocturnal.
We really do need that support group... or else we might go full retar- ENCHANTMENT!

Go play another game. There are countless games without "huge amounts of un-needed dialog" that should suit you. If anything, DA has too little dialogue at some important stages.

I'm utterly amused.
Why the heck did you even consider playing a _______roleplaying______ game if you feel dialog is sick, tiresome and needless?
These "un-needed" dialogs make the world of DAO living, they tell you part of the lore, the story and background of some characters.
It's simple. If you like farming, grinding, go play an mmo or Risen for the matter (it's not an rpg. It never was. Just couldn't stuff it in another genre). If you like action-packed adrenaline bombs, go play a tps, fps. If you like the un-needed dialogs, the boring rant about lore and background, _then_ you go and pick up a BioWare rpg.

I see the dialog as a part of the game unlike the OP who seems to see it as getting in the way of a pure hack and slash action game. I think my attention span is long enough that I don't fall a sleep during 5 minutes of well written dialog.
But to each his own.

Sten: "No."
Dialogue is the salt in the soup, the means to carry on the background story and character interaction. And most dialogues you can even choose to interrupt or even not talk in depth with your companions at all.

I don't think this some of the comments called for actually. The guy just doesn't like our kinds of games. My man doesn't either, and I would never imply that he's mental state lower than mine. So just drop it.
2nd. There ARE games that are called RPGs that don't have as much dialogs. Diablo, Hellgate London anyone? The quest givers just talk to you once and then you have a quest.
Wether these games can really be considered ROLE-playing games is discussion for other times, but the fact is that it's what they are called. And they can be enjoyable in their own ways.
The OP bought the wrong game for his taste. This is a simple, but sad truth. Probably the advertising is to be blamed. Some lessons are learned the hard way and this is one.
