Or are we talking about characters that we dislike because we don't like how they are written, their voice acting, ect?

Not to sound defensive, but is this *really* the only reason people don't like Miranda? I have yet to see someone mention her mental traits or personality when saying they don't like her. It's always "She's just a sex icon" or "The only reason she's in the game is for teenage kids to ****** off". Not once have I seen someone dislike her because of her cold personality or her attitude. It just shows a lack of knowledge of the character, and unwillingness to care (Don't judge a book by its cover, right?), and it's incredibly shallow. All it takes is 1 conversation with her to see that she has more depth than "lololol dat ass". If you still don't like her after that, then, fine.
I've seen quite a lot who don't like her for this reason, who think she's a "b*tch."
Even then, that more or less only implies that they took her at face value. Like I said, "Don't judge a book by it's cover".
(Coming from someone who used to loathe Miranda because of her personality, but then I took the 5 minutes to talk to her and get to know her, and now she's my favorite character)

I really like her character a lot. She develops from a rude, impersonal women into one that is kind and has a human side. Really a fantastic character development, she's my favorite human female in the games.AgitatedLemon wrote...

This. Although, just once, someone provide some legitimate reasons for not liking her the next time it's brought up.

I've got to admit, I find it a little strange that more people hate her for this than the fact that she wanted to put a control chip in Shepard's brain. That's why I didn't like her at first. Not the best first impression. But after playing through her story, I'm just neutral towards her now.AgitatedLemon wrote...

I've seen similar complaints about the asari, and the reason why I don't like most of them is because I often feel like they're trying to ninjamance my Shepards. Is this a problem with Miranda? I'd like to know now if there's a glitched dialogue somewhere that I should avoid...

As a woman, I just dislike when women are specifically portrayed to be a 'oo dat ass' character.(And yes, the video game world is totally redundant when it comes to not liking that) I realize her personal dilemmas, her inquiries and resent about childbirth, her love for her sister, her betrayal to TIM for you feels like a big personality moment for her. It is not my lack of knowledge as to her character, it is the 'sex icon' she has become and feels like through out the game that bring down my approval of her.

Sorry, it wasn't my intention to be rude or condescending. I just wanted to clarify things and explain how I thought you were judging a character for qualities she doesn't even have (likw how so many are doing with Vega currently). The fact that I'd just read a thread filled with hate towards virtually every character wasn't helping my mood either.Reptilian Rob wrote...

So yeah.
Thus that is all this is, opinions. If you're going to get angry, sarcastic or generally mad in general over someone elses opinion (which contrary to popular belife is not fact.) than a forum is not where you should be. A lot of Tali fans are very cool, and they really just like the character because THEY like the character not because other people like her. If someone doesn't like Garrus, I'm not going to flip out and throw facts at them or be rude. It's their opinion and that's totally cool with me. That's what the ME franchise biold down to, what you do, what you like and what you make of it.
Anyway, I'd write a post explaining how Tali isn't genocidal towards the geth in ME2 either, but I don't have the energy right now. Suffice to say that if you think she was, you'll be pleasantly surprised come ME3.

I assumed you meant you were tired of how other people saw her as a sex icon, forgive me for being mistaken. Did you mean she "becomes" a sex icon in-game? In that case... how? The only times she does anything inherently flirty or sensual (Indeed, anything close to "sex icon") is during the romance.

I was more targetting specificaly how her entire appearance has created the as you mentioned 'oo dat ass' atitude. There are cutscenes tailored to this, and obviously her romance is one of them, and not really relevant to what I was getting at. Characters like Jack, Tali, Ashley, the asari, shepard obvi, they all have the standard female model, whilst Miranda has her own. (Creates more of the sex icon vibe and specific cutscenes to show it off) So, as I've mentioned, personality is a like. She just has a... 'everything is too tailored and perfect' feel. Its kind of comparable to Lara Croft. Exceptionally intelligent, fan made sex icon.

Ah. I see where you're coming from. To be completely fair, the only glorifying cutscene (I know what you're referring to) happens once, albeit completely during the wrong time. I'm more than willing to blame that on a horny conversation animator though. I don't know about the comparison to Lara Croft (I mean, I don't know about her personality, I know she's a ridiculously overplayed "sex icon"). In regards to your point about "perfect", that's explained in-game (Her 1st and 2nd conversations on the Normandy), and I personally think it's a devious little ethical dilemma.
As someone who likes Miranda, I despise the mentality that went into her in-game character model sculpt, as much as I despise the people who think it's the only facet to her.

Tell that to the random close-ups of Miranda's ass. I liked the character, but it's not like marketing invented the her occasionally grating over-sexualization. Yvonne Strahovski is a very attractive woman and I never thought Miranda looked too much like a resident of the Uncanny Valley, but still? A line about how she was genetically engineered to be super-hot? Everyone is super-hot in these games.
As far as characters I dislike... I dunno. Garrus, because I don't know why.. I've always hated Batman. I look forward to hypocritcally talking Garrus out of vigilantism for the third time in Mass Effect 3. Jacob, because his "let's talk later" line really cheesed me off. You don't like to rush these kind of talks? Well I don't like you! The DLC characters annoyed me because I couldn't skip their dialogue on the Normandy; I just had to wait it out. Zaeed's speeches were longer than Kasumi's, so maybe the writers learned their lesson. I would also dislike Zaeed even without this. At number five is... Kelly. Like all the seemingly nice members of Cerberus in ME2, she seemed like kind of an idiot. Just because you love humans, doesn't mean you can't love aliens? Girl, that's what some of the classier Klan members say. check urself b4 u wreck urself.

It isn't numerous "random closeups", it's 1 time, and as I said, that's the horny conversation animator. She's genetically tailored to be "perfect". So... She has to be attractive, super intelligent, physically strong, a strong biotic, etc.

But
1. Jacob.
I don't see a point in his character. Hes boring. I didn't use him for the SM. The only reason why I know he is there cause of his , "Heavy Risk...but the priiiiize."
2. Kelly.
Zommmg. I KNOW I have a message on my !$#$% terminal!
3.Liara.
I just..don't like her personality. She reminds me of Jacob, to boring.
4. Grunt
Liked his LM, but hes a waste of space.
5. Udina
"This is an OUTRAAGE!" well your an outrage in my heart, Udina.
Idk if he counts but if Udina doesn't count, then my number 5 would be Mornith. Shes there for sex appeal and to kill you.
Yep c:
