1. The system feels more like something you would encounter in a Trading Card Game, or an MMO, where players constantly grind orquest for only a small chance of unlocking the item they are looking for. Those games certainly have large followings, but I don't think this is what Mass Effect should be about.
2. Several times I have saved up for packs, hoping for something new, and they all contained items I already owned. I have unlocked the Mattock Assault Rifle 4 times, and the Female Human Vanguard twice. I am aware that weapons appear to level up as you unlock them subsequent times, but if you do not have an interest in using that weapon to begin with, it really sucks to get it again. And why is it even possible to recieve the same class multiple times?
3. I remember watching the trailer for the multiplayer, and my friends and I were extremely excited to play it. We were constantly discussing what classes we were going to pick, and what races we would choose. I could not wait to get my hands on a Krogan, especially the Soldier, and I wanted to get my hands on the Revenant so I could unleash hails of bullets while lumbering around like a juggernaut.
When I entered the muliplayer and saw that you only start with a few items and classes, I was okay with that. I thought to myself, "I'll just play the Human Soldier and use the Avenger assult rifle until I unlock my Krogan and the Revenant!"
Well, around 12 hours of gameplay later, and countless Veteran packs purchased, and I have not unlocked any of those two things I was so excited to try. Actually, in all my time of playing, I have only unlocked one new class. Just one. To say I am disappointed is an understatement.
We are at the third game in an awesome series, and many players have become attached to a specific class or a specific weapon they have used in previous games, because it suits their playstyle the best and gives them the most enjoyable experience. I don't feel like I should be pigeonholed into playing a different way because I happen to not have unlocked the items and classes I am interested in.
Is there a reason it has to be like this? Couldn't we simply be given the option to purchase the weapons or classes we are interested in trying? Or perhaps we could get guaranteed weapon or class unlocks as we level up?
I like to logon with my friends for a couple hours every few nights and fight back against the Reapers. I don't want to spend hours grinding and buying booster packs to unlock the stuff I want, and I know I can't be the only one that feels this way.
I know I could be barking up the wrong tree because these things might be included at launch, but I definitely get the impression the multiplayer is close to finished, and that the item system we are testing is what will be in the final game. Thoughts/opinions?
