The Random Item system is far too extreme and detracts from the overall experience of the multiplayer.

I personally can't wait to see what it means to "promote" your character. Also, I'd like to respec my Turian sentinel, but if that's locked for the demo, I can live with that. It's not like demo progress will be carried over to the full game. Still, the demo is excellent!

I think it is like in Assasins Creed when he/she becomes a full fledged Master that you can deploy in the field or use to lead dens. Pretty sure in ME3 they will appear in the single player game and this is what Bioware meant by integrating MP into the SP experience.

On another note i love the random boxes in Multiplayer. But i also hate that it relates to character unl****s. I think it would have been fairer to seperate character unlocks from the packs and have them purchasable in a seperate store or unlocked with leveling and skill progression :alien:

Every time I buy a Veteran Pack and don't see a Turian Sentinel (hell, Turian ANYTHING), I come one step closer to punching someone hard in the gut.

I hate the random unlock system so much it gets my blood boiling. I spend an hour playing matches just to be able to buy a pack and I end up getting somthing like this:

3x Cobra Missiles (yay)
Medigel (yay)
3 random crappy weapon upgrades (boo)
Upgrade to a weapon I never use or use effeciently without the upgrade (blarrghrglrglrgrghg)

All I want is a freaking character unlock I will USE. It seems that 1/5 veteran packs I buy has a character upgrade, and it's always (ALWAYS) a female human something.

My play experience went something like this, but replace Turian with Krogan.

Just have a store where we buy what we want and high powered stuff is more expensive. This random packs stuff is nonsense.

Well... maybe the random-packs are part of the "we have great ideas for DLC"-stuff which was once in an interview... so multiplayer-stuff-unlock-DLC or something like that...
I really hope this is -not- the plan, but DLC sounds like fitting into the system of "all random"-packs you get for free...

Played 3 straight days all day, and still no krogan. I've gotten a couple other characters, but not the one I want of course. Why must it torment me???

Bioware seriously needs to overhaul the way races are unlocked. I went into multiplayer eager to play as my favorite race, the Turian. ...I've been forced to play as a human ever since, and every kit I've purchased has given me nothing more than snipers, shotgun chokes, shotgun bayonete attachments, and human female vanguards/infiltrators. To be honest, I'm really getting sick of it, and judging by the different topics I've been going through these past few days, I'm not the only one who feels the same way.

Although I said in a previous post that I don't like the current system, I've since changed my opinion. This system encourages you to play as classes you've never played before. My favorite class is Infiltrator (Sniper rifles FTW), but seeing how initially I only had a FEMALE infiltrator, I started playing as a Human Adept and got the Krogan Soldier in my starter package. I love now the human adept and the krogan soldier, and I've would never had considered it if not for this system. In fact I would be pissed if I got a Drell in the full version instead of a Krogan/Turian, but well maybe I'll be surprised.

This is what I found too. I was convinced I'd only play vanguard, but then I unlocked the Salarian infiltrator - now I play that all the time.

What I can tell you is in the full game, things will be easier to get and more rewarding - I just can't get really specific about why :)

Jarrett, you'd better be alluding to something that'll make getting something other than a bloody generic human or a weapon you'd actually use more common.

Humans may be stronger than ever in the universe if you let the original council die in ME1, but that doesn't mean they should be the most common thing to come out of 20k credits.

Encouraging people to play all the class/race combos randomly is a fine idea, but it didn't need to be random.  Just make the leveling or benefits of playing a given combo diminish as your progression through that class/race combo continues.  When you're a brand new Drell Vanguard, perhaps you get a bunch of bonuses for doing Task/Accomplishment XY for the first time with that class.  Yay experience!  And as you play more, you run out of those bonuses, and you level less quickly, and there are fewer individual class/weapon things to unlock if you're always using shotguns, and hey, maybe I want those bonuses again, so now it's time to try that Turian Sentinel I've been thinking about!  I know Jarrett & co. are probably tired of the COD comparison, but COD definitely gets this right.

I just want some variety.  Yeah, I know I can play any human class, and yes, it'll be fun when I do actually get lucky enough to unlock ANY alien race and play that.  But, c'mon.  I just want to try the Asari skillset.  Or the Turian skillset. I guess I don't understand why you would develop a multiplayer system wherein 12 alien class/race combos have unique blends of powers, and then make it unlikely for players to get to them.  if the drop system remains, hopefully class unlocks will be way more accessible as the game evolves.  They're the only thing I really have a problem with right now.

I've finally hit a streak where the same things are helping me by leveling up my AR and the stability mod for it.

It'd suck if I wanted toi use some other gun.

I've settled on just getting a ton of basic packs and not spending the 20k on the Veteran. At that rate I'd never get much of anything and every "miss" there really hurts. I think there's an issue there where if you complete a full set of 11 waves you usually do not have enogh cash for a veteran pakc. It seems out of whack to need 22 waves done to get one set of random goodies.

The system doesn't work at all and that is all anyone can say.

Because everything is left to ****ty RNG chance there is the very real possiblity that players will never get the item that they want (such as a Quarian Infiltrator).

We should be able to directly use our credits to purchase the items we want so that we can actually get them as opposed to never getting them at all because we aren't lucky.

People remember this is only the Demo chances are in the full game it will be a lot different and there will most likely more packs to unlock not just those two. As one Uncommon item at once seems okay but to get a Krogan ,Quarian, Slarian, Asari they are as I believe classed as "Rare" as they are the only ones I've seen in a gold "card" colour, so seems like its just "luck" to unlock these other races for the classes and considering there are two aliens in each class it would take a long time to get those extra characters.

Also as far as I know with unlocking the same character over again you gain more appearance choices as well as earn a large sum of XP.

As far as I see it the full game will be different in the Galaxy at War multiplayer mode.

What I can't wait for is the new maps you'll be able to play on there's five areas and I'm sure hoping they'll be more than two for each area.

So are their talk about playing as aliens was a le . because the demo is clearly saying that with this stupid unlock system . but hey COD and BF 3 MP players have nothing to worry this is such a pathetic piece of crap idea . what is the XP for if it does nothing . I want to play as aliens but whats the point if Bioware is not giving me a way to do it .

Some of the Bioware employees have clarified that there will be ways to improve your chances when the game launches. Check out the sticky topic for more info.

I bought 5 veteran packs, in my first a Krogan soldier, my second a Turian sentinel, fourth, Asari adept, and fifth Quarian engineer.

I was so happy :D

EDIT: And also there better be more packs to buy such as character or weapon packs for a bit more cash

Going to throw my hat into the ring here concerning this issue. I have read what Jarret Lee has to say about the fact that there are changes from the demo to what we'll have in the full game. I think what that indicates is that BioWare is concerned about the amount of 'negativity' about this issue because it was not something they had anticipated would occur. Even allowing for expanded rewards and that everything is easier to obtain the system is still flawed. What I see would be a much better way to work this is to split the races off from the weapons/supplies/equipmemt/mods. The races should be able to be purchased and not be random. It should NOT be cheap to do so and can be increasingly expensive as each race is unlocked. Leaving the rest random is fine as this reflects the fact that 'logistics' in this war are so messed up you can never be sure what the next shipment will contain. I am sure that this split would satisfy most people as they can play the race they want if not necessarily with the equipment they want. It would also still fit what seems to be the plan that BioWare has for the game without being that radical a change.

It's annoying getting evolutions of a weapon you don't use. I got a Viper Sniper rifle 6 different times as the "best" item in my veteran pack. I thought it would stop after I got the Viper V, but I got a Viper IV right after and it apparently replaces the Viper V on my weapons as well. They really need to address this. Randomize but do it in a way where it doesn't keep giving you the same items after you unlock all the different levels. They same can be said for the random class unlocks as well, got a Human Female Infilitrator even though I already had one.

How does it detract from the game? You still play it the same way you just don't get the look your after. I've got a turain, Salarian and a Quorian really 's a Asari but I don't mind it'll come in time just like in the main game. If you had nothing to work for it wouldn't be progress

I don't agree. I like the system, and find it kind of exciting. This also forces players to expeirment a little instead of just picking who they want to play as.

I think the system will be fine IF either, there are specific packs i.e an AR pack, containing either purely ARs and their weapon mods, or a much higher chance of getting these things, OR if they will introduce a trading aspect to the MP gameplay, where you can put certain items on a market and sell them for x amount of credits.

If not, I think MP will become quite frustrating and repetitive to play if you keep on getting the same things over and over with only a very small chance to get different weapons and character classes.

well this forced play style is not right and I can honestly say if they do not change this they will learn a very hard lesson and that is Players like to have control in MP on what they unlock and use . Bioware needs to discuss this more. If they want this MP to survive then it needs to be changed. we want to play as aliens not some poor man's wanna be Commander Shepard in MP . when a game developer forces me to do something and I get nothing for it yeah you better belive I am not going to be happy at all . either they give us the characters at the start or a character pack but they need to do something . And this game of not telling us is garbage .

Its not about the weapons and other garbage . Its the restriction of not getting the characters we want to play as that is the heart of the issue . I am fine with random weapons and mods packs . But I am not fine with the characters are tied to it

I'vegot a lvl 20 human male engineer and a lvl 19 Krogan soldier and I have yet to unlock ANY of the other engineer characters.  I've seen a couple quarian engineers and a Salarian engineer so I know they're attainable but I have yet to see a single human female engineer (like my primary femshep) which is sort of what I've been striving for.  I think I read somewhere that not everything is unlockable in the demo so I'll just wait till March 6 to even hope for that to be unlocked.  It's still tons of fun regardless IMO.  Once I get my Krogan maxed out I think I'll go infiltrator next.

Like I mentioned in the feedback thread, If I have no interest in engineers or pistols I'm not gonna play/use them even if I got them as a reward. It's just gonna make my attempts to unlock krogan soldier and mattock assault rifle much more annoying.
