I already have Dragon Age - Origins. Since there is a special on the Ultimate Edition in my computer store I'm thinking about buying that instead of awakening since it includes all the downloadable content as well.

Now I'm wondering if I can just install the new version or will that mess up my current Origins game? Can I make sure that I can use my current Origins characters when I play the Ultimate Edition?

Yes you can. You should lose nothing and gain the extra goodies. The one thing to be extra careful with, is to un-install Origins before installing Ultimate Edition. Backup your saves first if you wish, but if all goes well that shouldn't be necessary.

I bought the disk version of DA:O Ultimate last week, only to find that the 'unlock DLC' code is out-of date. Unless someone here can tell me how to resolve this problem I'd recommend buying a digital copy in the hope that it won't have the same problem.

Good evening,
I bought, in Brasil, the original game Dragon age origins ultimate edition. I registered the game on the Bioware website, but the DLCs are not authorized. What should I do?
Sorry for my English.
Thank you for your attention!

There some things to try. The stickies in my 'sig' are from this forum. Also, Patch 1.05 solves many DLC problems.

I had the same problem with the redeem code being out of date (after I purchased a disc this week). What I had to do was call EA (I called the Swedish office since it is where I am). The service person at EA was very helpful and helped me get registred with the code even though it was out of date.

However now I'm having trouble downloading some of the content since it says that my game is not up to date. I thought I could just keep playing with my originals Dragon Age origins, but it doesn't look that way. I'll have to try installing the new disc. In case that will solve the issue.

I'm still afraid I'll lose my current characters and progress since I'm not very good with computers.

@Jenilla;

Should be able to keep your Characters and Saves without a problem.
It's one of the options during the "Uninstall" process. Posted Image

I just bought the Ultimate Edition myself and thougth I would try one of the quests in the expansion pack about 7-8 hours into to the game, to see if I could level up my charater for the main game. I didn't realize these packs were intended for after the game was complete. Now I seem to have 'lost' all of my main game save files and can only access the expantion pack save files, even if I uncheck them in the dowloadable content folder.

I don't have an answer for this, yet, just thought I would let you know to be careful. If anyone has an answer, it would be appreciated :crying:

Chris;

This is not the the entire picture.  Some of the DLC were designed to be played "during" the main game.  Those can be done anytime during DA:O, including after the final scene and Epilogue.  (But personally, I usually complete "The Stone Prisoner", Warden's Keep", and "Return to Ostagar" before doing any of the main Quests...)

Others, however; "Dragon Age: Awakening", "Gollems of Amgarrak", and Witch Hunt", are, by design, seperate from, and set subsequent to, DA:O.  In that order.  There are references to the events of the earlier adventures scattered throughout each of them.  Most of these are simply throw-away lines, but still fun when you recognize them.  Others actually effect (in minor ways) what happens in the current game based on the choices you made in previous ones.

When you start those "Other Campaigns", you do not see your DA:O saves because they are not for that new Campaign.  (You will  see them listed under each possible character though, if you choose to "import" an existing one into that next adventure.)  While you can play these as stand-alone adventures without importing a previous character, why would you?  Half the fun (for me) is continuing to develop Your Warden

"Leliana's Song" is different in that it is set prior  to the events of DA:O, about 2-3 years earlier.  And your Warden doesn't appear in it at all, so of course there's no previous saves from which to "import".

If you go back and start DA:O, however, you will see all your original saves are still there.

(I deliberately chose not to discuss "The DLC Which Must Not Be Named".
It didn't happen, so doesn't exist. Posted Image )

@dlawyer888; Use the "Game Support" link at the bottom of the page under "Help" to contact EA Customer Support. I find I get the quickest response through the "Live Chat" option.

Thanks for the time invested in a detailed answer Thandal.

I suspected it was something like what you described, so I did go in and try the 'import characters' option, but I was still in the expansion saves, there were no saves from my main character to switch back to there . I guess you have to complete the quest before you can go back maybe? I dunno.

Normally I don't use mods but I added the lock pick spell since it shouldn't affect the integrity of the game too much. Maybe that screwed something up as I added it right about the time I ventured into the expansion pack.

Anyway's I ended up starting over since I wasn't that far into the game. You can skip dialogue quickly using the escape key, realized I missed some stuff previously, and really found my grove in combat too, so it's all good lol. I'll use your posted advice and try it again.... eventually :-)
Cheers.

Each of the three main expansion "Campaigns" (DAA, GoA, and WH) has their own set of saves.

If you choose "Other Campaigns" from the main menu, then Start a New Game, you'll have the option to import a Warden from any of saves in any of your games OF A PREVIOUS CAMPAIGN.  (No fair trying to import a Warden who has completed WH backwards into DAA!)  The way you do this is through "Select a Character", then select the save for that character which you want to use.

This is the only time during one of those campaigns when you'll even be able to see saves from any other.  Once you started that new game, you no longer have the option to "import" anything into it.

So for example:

I've finished DA:O three times with three diffferent Wardens; Alice, Bob, and Charlotte.

I start DA:A and decide to import my Warden Bob.  I'll get a list of all the saves in "Bob's" folder, and will pick which one to use.  (Generally, I'd pick my very last one, but I don't have to.)  Notice that I haven't actually been offered a "Save" yet.  Only a "Select Character" option.  But I'm looking at the list of save files for that character.

If I change my mind and want to play DA:A with Charlotte instead, I can choose "Switch Character" and I'll be given a list of all my DA:O characters to choose from.  Now I pick Charlotte, and I'll be able to choose from which of those saves to import.

I play for a while (with whichever Warden I decided to use) and I make a couple of saves (both "Named Saves" and a Quick Save.  Plus the game makes an Auto-Save for me.)

I exit, then come back later.

Now when I start Dragon Age, the game assumes I want to keep playing DA:A, and loads things appopriately.  If I choose "Load", I'll only see those DA:A saves, if I choose "Resume", it'll start-up with the last save I made in DA:A, etc.

To see the other  saves I would have to start "Other Campaigns" first, and choose the one I want.

Or I could decided to start a new  DA:A game.  In which case I could go through the whole "import" cycle again! Posted Image

NOTE:  As I mentioned before, LS is different in that there isn't an import function at all (for obvious reasons.) Posted Image
