Still have this issue in full game. On Earth it was terrible.

I have same problem. But it also puts huge shadow over characters and make them almost unrecognizable

The shadow is horrible in any kind of shade and after the beautiful graphics of Mass Effect 2, I was hoping for more of the same so I'm hoping for a high quality textures pack big time.

I have the same issue, HD4870. I'm sure this is a ME3 bug as it works just fine with other games.

It's definitely only 16 bit colors and of course there is no option for 16/32 bit.

Another 4870 user here with the same problem. 12.1 catalyst drivers installed. Here's hoping you guys can get it worked out.

Yeah for me sometimes there's horrible shadows obscuring characters' faces, other times those same scenes don't have them and it's just the lack of colors that looks terrible. I haven't quite been able to piece together if there is a pattern yet.

This significantly detracts from the experience, I keep noticing the 16 bit colors.

Any feedback that BioWare is aware of this issue would be good.

I was having a similar problem, but for me, it was because the game was running on my integrated graphics card without me realizing it.

+1 in retail. Shadows look awful. Black muck with a discolored outer rim. Would be nice to hear a response as a few ppl are now reporting this in retail.

I'd like to add that the detail is woefully bad and it's hampering my enjoyment of the game- the first game gets a higher score in the graphics department from me when it comes to characters not looking like they have been draped in plasticene cloth.

Edit: Mine is an Australian retail copy.

Same problem here with an HD4850; I'm guessing it's something to do with the postprocessing, as all dark areas are horribly banded.

Having the exact same issue on a Radeon 4890 with 12.2 catalyst drivers, along with constant freezes (every minute or two).

We have gtx560Ti with latest drivers and same issue

I have an evga gtx 560 (not ti) with 295.73 drivers and i don't have this issue.

But maybe the people with this issue don't have sufficient cooling for their video cards. An overheating video card can cause all kinds of wonky visuals in games.

It ain't overheating... everyone would notice their fans screaming.

GTX 295 - shadow issues hiding faces here. I think I improved it somewhat by turning off dynamic shadows and reducing the # of cameras.

To do this you need the ME3 configurator - why would they not put all of the controls on the main menu???

Bumpity Bump Bump. Would be nice to get some word that this is an acknowledged problem. Just downloaded latest 12.2 drivers last night with no benefit. Some areas are fine (citadel) with little to no black muck, and other areas are unbearable (mars).

I have tweaked almost every setting in configuration to no avail. By leaving dynamic shadows ON I have eliminated the dark face problem, but environment shadows look terrible at times.

looks like texture filtering quality settings are set to high-performance, set it to quality/high-quality in the nvidia menu (i'm not familiar with amd but it's probably the same)

If mipmap detail level is the ati equivalent of texturing filtering then I have that set to High Quality. Really seems like a shadow/shading issue as Me2 had no such problem, and I know the Me3 engine incorporated a new lighting engine.

Seems as if the Radon HD 4xxx and 5xxx series are affected the most.

What you perceive as bugged shadows is really just lacking colors, since there are not as many shades available to create a complete illusion with multiple layers.

Isn't there a way to force a game to run in 32 bit color?

Ah, makes sense.  I am running 64 bit windows 7, so mabye there is a conflict between the difference?

Shouldn't be the problem, it just means your operating system natively supports 64 bit computing which is not related to color depth. As far as I know, 32 bit color (so called True Color) is the maximum in terms of what makes sense for the human eye. But below that (16 bit), you will be able to see layers of shadows, your flashlight light, even on faces. That is why 32 bit is standart for modern games.

So yeah, if you noticed it once it will keep bugging you.
