This is pretty major, I wouldn't be surprised if almost all AMD cards are affected by this.

Something needs to be done fast.

OP's Screenshots resembled my games appearance.

Vista 32
ATI 4850
12.1 drivers

EDIT- As a BTW, turning off Depthoffield will remove the issue but kills the game graphically as it becomes awfully bland to look at.

Yeah I can confirm that disabling depth of field removes the issue at the apparent cost of all post-processing effects. Hopefully we can get a confirmation from Bioware that they are working on it.

Ah thanks for the work-around, this confirmes beyond a doubt that it's not a user issue.

I don't understand how this made it into the final game though, does QA not test on different configurations?

We shouldn't have to turn of atmospherically crucial graphic features in order to get normal 32bit though, obviously.

BioWare? Hello?

Are you guys looking into this? Can you hold off on counting that DLC money for a few days and fix this? Lot's of us paid $80 friggin bucks....

I've got the same issue. Mass Effect 2 works fine on my ATI 4870, but Mass Effect 3 looks horribly. Turning Depth of Field off sovles the 16-bit look alike shader problem, but the game looks even worse without it.

Upgrading to the 12.2 drivers changed nothing.

Alright guys. Thanks to Charsi we have a temporary solution for the graphic bug. But.. um. Game will look little.. worse.
So, here it is:
Your documents/BioWare/Mass Effect 3/BioGame/Config/GamerSettings

Open the document and [SystemSettings], next add this line at the end
DepthOfField=False
And save it. Works for me, works for Charsi. Hope this will help to you guys, as well. Temporary solution until BioWare will do something about it.

Worked for me in almost all game, but still some parts of the game looks really bad, for example, when I go to Javik room, my femshep hair just goes weird!

It looks worse, but graphic problems are gone. No one forcing you to using it. It's temporary until BioWare will do something about it. And they didn't do anything since demo.

Incidentally, I also have the same issue with the hair in Javik's room. Sounds like the problems may be related.

Yay! Well.....Kinda. Thx for the post. Definitely removes the black reaper sludge consuming the screen, but the lack of dof really detracts from the cinematic quality.

Decent little performance boost as well, but it would be nice to get an official patch rather than a workaround which lowers the visual quality.

I just don't want anyone to think this is a reasonable solution, as we all paid full for this game and not some crappy 16 bit version. No word from BioWare either. It's been weeks and nothing has been done that we know of. But I guess it will do for a little bit longer.

Agreed, It's too big a compromise for it to be considered a fix. Too many graphical aspects are associated with the Depthoffield option for it to be practical or fair.

Bioware/EA could you please reply to the thread and let us know that the issue is known and being looked into. I can live with the issue if a fix is being made but seeing the issue everytime i play and not having official feedback is like a slap to the face.

Just like to point out that this issue is mostly ignorable ( even though extremely annoying) in most of the game except for certain levels and conversations, unfortunately this includes a set of levels very near the end which has given something that should be 'epic' a massive dose of 'ugly' and in some cases making seeing items within the affected areas unseeable unless the item releases a glow itself.

Same problem here with the hair, although I'm running an Nvidia 560 Ti rather than an ATi/AMD card.

I imagine it's an Unreal engine issue rather than a gfx driver bug.

I've notice the problem becomes more apparent with darker skinned Shepards. Is that the case for anyone else?

Have not noticed a difference between skin tones, but rather light/dark areas.  Any section where Shepard has to use a flashlight is a mess, while well lit areas like the citadel look fairly decent.

No news still?!

This is like one of the biggest technical issue in the game and it's not even getting acknowledged...

BTW I enabled DoF again, having poor colors is the lesser evil. Without DoF the game just looks horrible.
