Note that it's always good to keep a recent backup of the whole bioware folder, before you edit anything and even if you don't, as it also includes a profile file which stores your achievements; also usefull in case some ingame autosaving goes wrong!
Furthermore, if you're going to experiment, make sure you disabled any kind of forced optimizations (performance or visual Quality wise), through your drivers, no matter if on ATI or Nvidia cards! Eg. on ATI/ AMD cards disable advanced AI. and leave Texture filtering Quality at least on High to eliminate potential issues caused by these settings beforehand.
