So I've been playing the MP for the past few days, and today beat Gold mode.  It was hard but not THAT hard.  I was a lvl 20 asari adept playing with a 20 infil, 19 krogan soldier and 19 sentinel.

If I can beat this right now with some people I just met today and yesterday, I think it's a bit too easy.  The later waves are hard, but once you get a good defense up its not as hard as it should be.  The only real brutal challenge is the wave 10 mission: if you get the once where you have to hack 4 locations, or the enemy targets, its very hard.  We wiped several times on these missions, but the first time we got a "defend this location" type mission, crushed it.

I really like the MP, I just hope at some point a higher level of difficulty is added.  I figure once the full game is out and I'm rocking highly upgraded weapons and mods, even Gold won't be that much of a challenge.

Honestly, having the last wave or two being nothing but phantoms is actually lowering the difficulty.  Phantoms are only a threat when thery're mixed in with other troops.  When you see four of them coming, they go down quick (although I confess to spamming the hell out of Stasis...probably the best power in the game at this point)

TLDR: A platinum level of difficulty would be nice at some point since people are already beating Gold and eventually it will be trivial due to upgrades, mods, etc.

I've had the same experience and I agree. Gold is very very tough, but in the end it can still be "grinded" by a team of four 20's.

What would Platinum be exactly?

Atlas spam from wave 1?

Same here. At first I thought even the lower difficulties are very hard, but now, eh, not so much... Especially if someone is playing asari adept.

I'm hoping it's just because we are only playing cerberus. Hopefully the other enemies in the full game aren't as basic as cerberus where having a specific combo of classes at high level pretty much makes mince meat of them. I'm hoping enemy type will play a larger role, perhaps making certain classes not as necessarily, or even inadequate, causing you to change classes and strategy to defeat them.

Doubt it. Achievements are set for complete all missions in Gold in the description so gold is the hardest.
Good job on beating gold btw. My team only got to 10.

That's why.

Just kidding, I myself got lucky in a silver matchmaking and met up with 3 other good players, so we decided to try out gold.  It was tense the whole way through until we beat it, but I can foresee this difficulty becoming normal to me very soon, I'd be willing to throw my masochistic vote for a Platinum difficulty.

Yeah, I mean don't get me wrong, it was a blast, and very challenging and intense (and yes the Asari Adept is god mode), but I just forsee the Gold level becoming trivialized.

Perhaps a good solution (maybe an early DLC) could be "elite" category of enemies, like waves of mixed troops from all factions. Once you figure out what classes and powers counter what enemies, it becomes a matter of execution. I want a difficulty level where it almost requires luck, as that makes you want to keep trying.

Another idea might be a "hardcore" mode where you can't use rocket launchers or med kits, but get extra credits?

Also, much as I hate to see it, Stasis needs a slight nerf. It is ridiculously powerful right now, and essentially renders Phantoms toothless in the hands of a decent player.

One way to make it harder would be to play with just two or three players. My friend and I have been playing Bronze with our lower level characters for a little more challenge. I could see that making silver and gold a good challenge with the lvl 20's
(I do like your DLC idea though)

See achievements are for all the maps with all the enemies on Gold. You may have mastered Gold with cerberus, but with Reapers or Geth... or both, it may be an ENTIRELY new ball game.

Cerberus is the easyest enemy, geth are a bit more challenging in some map and reaper can be quite difficult to handle.
Still it's far from impossible.

I am definetly not a big player, yet i manage to beat gold difficulty more or less 5 time out of 10, always with random team. And since the skill can be conbined with your team, you can probabli get to a 7-8 out of 10 win with 3 temmates and coordination.
Last time did beast team score with a quarian infiltrator and a shotgan...

If you reduce the time it takes to bleed out, only allow one consumable of each type to be used each wave, and reduce the timer on objectives, you're well on your way to making the game much, much tougher without having to mess with the enemies at all.  There are many other subtle tweaks that could be made to the gameplay beyond that, those are just examples.

Atlas? Only phantoms and and phantoms inside an atlas. That would be a real challenge.

All enemies would spawn at once in one wave all across the map.

Wave 1: 36 engineers.
Wave 2: 75 Engineers
Wave 3: 150 Engineers
Wave 4: 300 engineers
wave 5: 600 engineers
wave 6: 1200 engineers
wave 7: 2400 engineers
wave 8: 4800 engineers
wave 9: 9600 engineers and 10 phantoms
wave 10: who even cares anymore...
