I played number 2 a lill while ago but after reformating my computer I forgot to backup my save file, so now I lost all my progress. And since college is starting soon I probably wont have enough time to play ME1 and 2 before 3 comes out if I go through all the side missions etc. I was wondering, do side quests affect the sequels? Like say I play ME1 but just blaze through the main story without doing any side missions. Does that affect number 2? and same with playing number 2 without doing any side missions etc etc.
Do any of the ME side quests affect the next game?

well, some side quests from ME did make cameos in ME2, so i would assume ME2 side quests would affect ME3. but i doubt ME side quests would effect ME3

Yeah I think it does, albeit minimally. The side quests in the first game were referenced in the second game and sometimes came up in conversation, so odds are that the ones in Mass Effect 2 will also be mentioned in ME3.

hmm alright thanks guys =3. I guess I will have to take it slowly and not play ME3 SP until i finish the previous ones all over again. xD

I don't think it's 100% necessary. You could just play ME3 from scratch. If you want a full circle experience, the main quests matter the most, imo..
