 While it may seem minor, one of my biggest complaints for ME 2 was how the ability to have your squadmates wear helmets in non-hazardous settings was taken out. Except in hub worlds, I always wore a helmet in ME 1 and 2. With the helmet toggle in ME 3, I can have Garrus wear that awesome helmet he has and it feels like I'm leading an actual military squad instead of a Hollywood adventure trio.

So the helmet toggle can be applied to any squad member at any point in the game off-ship, like in ME1?

I agree with this. I never equipped helmets in ME2 (or used the full body covering armor) because I didn't like that I couldn't see Shep's face in conversation. I don't care if it's covered during battle though. Huge, huge improvement to me.

I heard about this but never bothered to try it out. Seems pretty cool and good for immersion.

You have an option in the settings to have your squadmates to wear helmets (or in Liara's case, that face mask) at all times in combat.

I love it, too. Now I can use any helmet I want without worrying about Shep's face in dialogue. Plus it'll be cool to run my 3 Man Wrecking Crew with helms on while trashing the reapers' forces!
