Sounds like you need a Vanguard on your team....  they're not a big deal at all.

Mass Effect 2 on Insanity isn't hard.

Perhaps you just suck? I always manage to kill them even without using stasis...

Phantoms are perfect the way they are.
Not too hard to take out (with several if not all classes) but a huge threat when you don't pay attention and/or they sneak up on you.

Pretty much this... whenever the "Phantom!" yell goes out, I tend to find it works best if group focuses on hunting her down... course it'd be nice if there were two on the field if the callout was "Phantoms!" that way groups wouldn't die to 2nd one whilst dealing with the 1st, kinda like group I was in earlier today did , 1st one put down one of the squaddies, then as me and other squaddie went to take care of that one, just as we defeated it and were looking to rez our buddy another one snook up on us and took us out... then went on to take out the unsuspecting 4th squadmate that was off in another part of the map.

To the OP query about single-player, I say... BRING IT. Plenty of instances where Shepard can do 1-shot/hit kills so don't see why we can't have an enemy that doesn't if we stupidly let them.

I, on Bronze, have never been able to kill a Phantom. This is in a complete group of four.

Now, I can easily predict in the future that people will be complaining this in the single player campaign, albeit slighty nerfed.

Please, please tell me their one-hit-kill stab attack won't be present in Single Player.

easy way to beat them is warp, tech drain, and anything else you can do to get there shields down and then use either with a max wide singularity area so that if you do her her sheilds down and if you have adept or mechanist to help burn them down, do not ever fight then in close combat run away and use anything you can to get them off and or knock them away from you

i always just take down their barrier with my scimitar then biotic charge them to finish them off, they aren't too hard to kill but that pistol that takes down my barriers in one hit is a pain

Yes, I believe the age old adage of "Never bring a gun to a swordfight" fits this scenario, sure we have our 'Omni-blade' but it doesn't match up against her Katana's (or whichever swords it is she is wielding)

Hard eh? Wait til you try managing 3 at the same time on Gold, with 2 Atlus (atluses....atli?...anyway) blasting away at your team along with all the other troops. If your team couldn't focus one down on bronze, there's not much in the way of advice anyone could give you, except to Vanguard, or make them easy mode with an asari adept.

I think they're a bit easy. I heard people saying that they could catch biotics and I thought, as I play Adept, they would be challenging but I pretty much still owned them with a few warps.

They are quite easy to kill but sometimes they sneak up on you and stunlock you, which is annoying as all hell.

I have no problem killing phantoms. You either just suck or u do a rambo which is quite stupid imo.

PS. Insanity on ME2 was ridiculously easy.

Am I the only one who just charges em straight-face, heavy-hit, and shotgun as a finale? They don't even have a chance to cloak with that combo.

Get someone to overload the barrier then you are good.

Best bet is to have an infiltrator/sentinel combo.

Bronze Challenge it just takes me one stealth'd Headshot to kill one at full Barrier. Silver/Gold however, and it's best you just stay way from it and everyone kill it as fast as you can.

I find that they are 2nd in kill order after Engineers(and their crappy turrets).

They don't appear to "catch" biotics. It's just that they roll, jump and dodge a lot, and the game engine makes most abilities miss when that happens.

There are plenty of good ways to take down Phantoms. Easiest way is having an Asari cast stasis on them. Shoot them a few times and then detonate the stasis with a throw. Done.

Vanguards with low enough cooldown on charge can basically stunlock them between than and their other abilities.

Several class/race combos have overload; that takes care of the barrier, and the Salarian infiltrator's energy drain does the same thing.

Automatic weapons fire will keep them dodging rather than approaching you (although on higher difficulties, this isn't ideal either because even at a distance, the phantom's palm blaster does a lot of damage).

o no they do catch biotics. I've had them stop/catch a shockwave that is near full upgrade. they have some kind of glove that does it

So much of this. Or let your teamate unleash vengeance upon them on higher level while you put stasis elsewhere. :D

Roll a soldier + shoot it in the face = win

Once you gain a few levels they're really quite manageable. At lvl 1 however you should probably keep your distance.
