Roll.  Roll allows you to dodge every telegraphed attack for the duration you are a'rollin.  If you first become aware of the phantom when it has just bummed you with it's sword, then it's your own damn fault for such wanton tunnel vision.  It isn't hard to spot them coming, particularly when they are the only enemy with the purple health bar.  The target system will clock them even when they are behind stuff.


The singles you fight on bronze aren't bad. It's when you fight 3-4 at  time in silver on 6+ at a time in gold that it becomes a real problem.

I didn't get to read all 8 pages, but just wanted to say that any of the 4 guys I play with can kill a phantom 1 on 1 when we play online, there not that powerful unless they suprise you. Never felt they were overpowered at all, Sentry Guns are far more annoying imo ( though still not overpowered ).

I can solo multiple with my vanguard in silver.

charge > nova > shotgun to the face.

Phantoms are not overpowered at all.  Certain Vanguard specs can handle them, Infiltrators, Asari Adepts... I'm sure there's others I'm forgetting (max Concussive Shot Soldiers perhaps?).  Phantoms just encourage diverse teams.

Using the Human Vanguard, I have been able to take the Phantom on my own. Edit: As others have said, basically charge, nova, shotgun/melee.

Using the Soldier, I take a few shots, then either stunning the Phaonton with Concussive Shot or Carnage, and then rush in with my own melee attack. If the Phanton doesn't go down, it will still be close to death and another member of the team will be able t finish it off

In other words, definitly not overpowered.

I find them to be fine once you get to know them a bit, but I wouldn't be opposed to adjusting (or outright removing them) for Bronze.
Some of my friends who have practically never played a multiplayer game before seem to find it a complete party pooper when we are having fun shooting basic guys and then suddenly someone gets skewered up the bum out of nowhere.

I like them on my Sentinel since they are one of the few guys that live long enough for me to do a warp+throw detonation on them, possibly killing others in the process.

While I think the phantom is an awesome enemy and really mixes things up, it seems as though they take way too much punishment. Phantoms are the most agile enemy, the most difficult to hit (due to their small size), and possibly the most offensively gifted, as they have deadly projectile and melee attacks. Though as small and quick as they are, they can take an absolute beating before going down. Why can phantoms take more damage than a centurion? It seems they can on silver, anyways.

I love the phantom and think it's a nice mixup from the run of the mill soldiers, but the phantom should probably be more fragile as its smaller, quicker and harder to hit. It is fun going toe-to-toe with them via melee, especially using a krogan.

With randoms...i managed to take out a phantom with a level 1 sentinel with my pistol. was an epic one on one.

Phantoms are fine as they are. They're the only enemy that offers any challenge. Unless I'm on my Asari Adept. In which case, they're cake.

They vary. At times they've wiped out my entire team at the end of a round and other times they've went down instantly.

As I said in another thread, I love the challenge they represent. Once you figure out what your particular character can do to take them out it's still difficult to kill them because of their speed and cloaking, but that's what makes it fun. My humble engineer killed two yesterday in the same wave... it was a particularly prideful moment for me! They still have killed my characters more often than I have managed to kill them but that's okay, I wouldn't want Bioware to change a thing about the phantoms.

 Actually I really like phantoms and other tough-nuggets that I'd normally consider annoying. Phantoms are a particular threat, if you let them get close enough. They're one of the enemies that actually maks me panic a little, that forces me to really think about what I'm doing. No, it's not like I don't have a chance at all against them, it's not like I get extremely annoyed when they kill me. I'm fine with Phantoms.

That said, I play with a Shotgun, and they seem to be the most effective weapons against Phantoms. Is it something that needs to be considered for Snipers and Pistols and such?

Easy to kill as any other class, you don't have to be adept to be able to pull it off. You just need to find a way.

Trick is to move back right after and keep shooting. Never give them a chance to stab you and they shouldn't if you got shields. Did you do Nova or got your shield insta shoted down?

I have killed them fine with my Soldier, Adept, Engineer and Vanguard (I haven't met any on my Infiltrator yet, nor my Sentinel).

1. Cloak

2. Headshot

Repeat until you have a headless Phantom

Alternative strategy:

Stasis + Widow = Easy mode

Dang, I've been thinking of creating infiltrator, but I've always found my Vanguard or Soldier to be too much fun to fully try other classes (plus they ALWAYS get me the no.1 score and get me trough tough spots).

You can actually see it even when cloaked. There is a ripple outline and you can pull it out of cloak by AOEing the area or shooting it directly. I've killed alot of Phantoms this way - she'll panic, cloak and she keeps moving in the same direction + the hazy outline and wham, kill her off still. Especially if I'm F-charging with my Krogan xD

A true example here folks of not understanding the situation or example I've provided.  It has nothing to do with roll because currently roll is broken/bound with cover so that don't help :P.   Again, let me make it clear to you, when you see them there is no problem.  It's when you don't see them and they spawn close to you is when the problem occurs.  So what does roll have to do with it? Nothing at all.  In most/all cases once it starts it's melee it's done in combos which is all it takes.
