Cheesy dialogue is the true blight of - once good - RPG series.

This.

If anyone has forgotten, log onto youtube and search for Matriarch Benezia and Jacob romance. Like all games with voiced characters ME1 and ME2 had its fair share of bad or cheesy dialogue.

Nah, the Illusive Man picked them for Shepard. It's to tims credit that he picked such a great team, not shep.

Shepard can pull off the Suicide Mission without losing a man, despite it being, you know...a suicide mission. He isn't quite as tactically inept as some people are making him out to be, bad dialogue aside. If Shepard has the War Hero background he also is specifically made a Spectre because of his excellent small unit leadership abilities. On Elysium he rallied a ragtag band of defenders, that at least included untrained civilians, to defeat an attacking Batarian force that had the humans massively outnumbered. War Hero Shep is Leonidas at Thermopyae, except this time Leonidas lives.

You guys know that old Bioware-games had some cheese to right? I mean the scene where Bastila turns evil and you turn her back with the help of love, no kidding, you say that you love her and she's oh, I am no sith no more. That's cheese and heck, I love that scene, cheese don't have to be a bad thing.

People like cheese, how else does a company like Disney make so much money? lolz

Also we love heroic and super-sappy moments that make us go all gooey inside XD.

Motivational speeches are usually what you need when you know you're probably going to die.

I remember that line. I think I decided to kill Bastila rather than turn her light side with that line.

Thankfully everybody besides Shepard and Anderson died in that room.

Hopefully Anderson will never mention Shepard's "strategy" again.

At least with those two games you always had some control over what shep says - sometimes still cheesy but at least your choice of cheesy.

That one was the worst for me by far. Totally out of character and outright stupid. This is what happens when you put the game on auto-pilot for "cinematic flow".

Wasn't it changed though? From it being a plan to being the only thing they can do?

Committee: What do we do now?
Shepard: The only thing we can, we fight or we die!

That sounds less like a plan and more like buying time till a real plan can be thought up. And honestly, when you have no plan or idea on how to destroy a race of sentient starships, there's nothing else you can really do.

It's a logical contradiction. Without planning or tactics, it is impossible to survive.

I can live with the cheesy dialogue.

What I don't like is that there are so few dialogue options in the demo. I get 2 tiny dialogue options now (what happened to the left side "investigate" style dialogue choices?) the rest was simply watching my Shepard in cutscene after cutscene without any player input whatsoever.

I really hope it's just stuff being cut out of the demo and there's much more dialogue options in the final game. But at this point, I'm very worried...

he didnt say "we fight or we die, thats the plan!", he said "the only thing we can do, we fight or we die!".

What would you have said? Do you have an actual plan of defeating the reapers, if you do id like to hear it. For the time, Shepard knows no feasible way to stop thousands of reapers and thus its reasonable to say that survival and fighting for existance is the way now.

Can you judge the whole games script based on a demo? I dont think you can. And this is coming from a guy who has read the script in leaks.

Some lines are kinda cheesy, but that isnt nothing new, ME1 and ME2 had its fair share too. Overall im impressed with the script, seem better than ME2 at least and unlike that game this game actually has a plot now, tough there are some...low points. I think it's ok for a video game tough, this doesnt need to be Shakespeare.

Umm, no, I didn't have a choice of cheese.  It's been just as forced from five years ago to now.  I don't make illusions out of choosing a good to bad way to tell someone off if its the same outcome.

Well, it's not the Mass Effect that Casey Hudson wrote.

Hepler also didn't have a hand in this I don't think, apart from maybe making everyone including Shep bisexual (because she's obsessed with gays I think), it's this guy called Mac Walters who is to blame.

Same topic...check.
Same people...check.

Nothing new here. Same old, same old. And the same people still refuse to actually discuss anything short of spouting "It's bad!".

Oh, and of course, insulting the writer behind it. Couldn't do without that, now could we?

There's a difference between cheesy dialogue, bad dialogue and terribly placed dialogue.
For those criticizing the critics, I believe they, and I, were saying that line was just bad.
The entire intro, to me, was just terrible with its dialogue options lacking in both frequency or well written (or even tastefully cheesy) lines.
I was incredibly shocked and very disappointed at how much dialogue my Shepard said without me using the dialogue-choice-wheel-doohickey, not allowing me to choose my response to other characters speaking.
I'm at least hoping that they let you "investigate" how you met and became acquainted with the new muddleheaded guy in the full game.

edit: I'm not going to read comic books about a series that started off, excelled in and grew up as video games. In my not so humble opinion, interactions (like meeting new characters) made by the playable character should only be made by the player. Who is this guy? Is he good or an a**-hat? Why should i trust him following me with a gun when it wasn't my choice that we were forced to train togethor/or however you met him in canon? Why should I trust my squad's lives with a man I have no knowledge of?

How the **** are you going to use strategy or tactics against DOZENS OF REAPERS?!

It's about survival. About getting as many people into some form of shelters as possible to hold out until something more long term can be put into effect...

Anderson knows the deal. He said it himself, he knows Humanity can't win regardless of how much of the ALliance they sacrifice to the grinder simply because of how gigantic the invasion is. So, survive until they do have a chance.
